Intuition Ale Works - DuuuVaaaL Golden Ale - UPDATE-- Cease & Desist

This appears to be a 12oz can, and it appears to be playing with Duvel Golden Ale?,,,but somehow I think there’s a story here as Jacksonville Florida’s Intuition Ale Works launches Belgian-Style DuuuVaaaL Golden Ale.  DuuuVaaaL uses Belgian Pilsner malt, magnum & Willamette hops, Belgian yeast and Florida cane sugar to get to it’s big 8.1% ABV.  It’s a guess but based on the football logos and the fact that Intuition Ale Works is in Duval County, perhaps this is a tribute to the Duval Tigers or Duval Panthers?

UPDATE 18 Dec 2012:

As I suspected above, Duval was NOT happy with the naming and has sent a Cease & Desist letter to Intuition.  This from Jacksonville.com:

And now Davis has received a letter from an attorney representing Duvel insisting that Intuition cease and desist from using the Duuuvaaal name.

“Your company’s use of the mark Duuuvaaal for beer infringes on our client’s Duvel trademark,” the letter said, “because consumers are likely to believe – erroneously – that your beer is affiliated or connected with Duvel.”

The letter from Washington, D.C., attorney John Dabney said the confusion is exacerbated by the fact that Duuuvaaal is marketed as a Belgian-style beer.

Davis said he’s not sure what he’s going to do.

“We’re kind of weighing our options,” he said. “At the minimum, we still want to serve it in our tap room.”
