We’ve had some really great local and national guests on the WILK Friday BeerBuzz…from Hawaii to Wilkes-Barre we’ve welcomed some really fun brewers and sampled some great beers. Every so often a guest on our show becomes more than just a great guest…but also a friend….and I’m happy to say I consider our guest today a real friend.
It’s been way too long since we welcomed our pal Leo Orlandini into the studio to feature a great Lion Brewery / Stegmaier Beer but today I think we made up for that absence in he beer we choose. No one knows the history of Lion Brewery and the Stegmaier line of beers like Leo and this beer certainly has a history.
Today we chose to sample what I consider to be the classic Stegmaier beer….Stegmaier Porter. This beer has real history at the brewery, and while it has changed a bit and even gone on hiatus for periods of time, it always seems to return and it always seems to be a beer people just love.
Stegmaier Porter has a classic American Porter flavor with notes of coffee, chocolate and a real malty backbone. Steg Porter has clean and pleasing roasted finish and an ABV that makes it easy to enjoy more than one. It was a real blast talking about the history of Steg Porter with Leo, but even more exciting to hear that Porter does have a future in the Stegmaier line-up. This is great news and I’m happy we get to report it.
Of course with the winter season upon us, we had to sample the 2012 version of Stegmaier Winter Warmer. Dressed in it’s new packaging this beer not only looks great but tastes great as well. Lots of caramel and toffee flavors, some flavors of dark fruits and a big malty finish…but at 7.8% ABV, keep your eye on this one.
Thank you to Leo Orlandini from Lion Brewery ,Nancy, John & Joe for yet another
fun Friday.
The Friday BeerBuzz…bringing good beers and good people together.

Wow! Always a treat when Leo Orlandini from Lion Brewery can stop by the WILK Friday Beer Buzz.
ReplyDeleteLeo is an excellent, talented brewer who consistently makes great beers and Lion is lucky to have him.
The Porter is a Stegmaier standard, it's back, and was delicious. What I loved about the Winter Warmer is that it's not like a lot of other beers of the same ilk. It's not about licking the wreath. Leo's Stegmaier Winter Warmer lets the beer speak for itself.
And Stegmaier beers are MOST affordable.
Thank you Leo!
Thanks Bill from MyBeerBuzz.com!
And thanks to you for listening!
Best,
John

We always love having Leo in the studio with us and we really enjoyed both beers today. Stegmaier Porter is a classic beer and one of my favorites too. On a related note feel free to comment in your votes for the next or an upcoming Stegmaier seasonal brew.
ReplyDeleteHi buzzers. I really like when you have local brewers on, and I really buy Stegmaier all the time already. Hello to Leo and I can't wait to buy some Porter now. I vote for Brewhouse bock or can I make up my own beer?
ReplyDeleteJess
Jess I would say nothing is off the table so feel free to suggest.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the porter but the bock beer wasn't my style. I would vote for a winter stout, maybe with raspberry or cherry.
ReplyDeleteAmy
Count my vote for Steg Porter. I really do love that beer. For Spring maybe a hoppy Helles style beer?
ReplyDeleteAJ
Hi guys. I like the idea of a Cherry Stout too. Stegmaier Cherry Stout has a nice ring to it. And in Spring maybe a Blueberry Wheat or Pale Ale.

Hello buuzz team. I think today was one of my favorite shows since I really like Stegmaier Porter and had no idea it was coming back until the show today. I'll be buying some for sure to stock up. I liked the Brewhouse Bock but I also like some of the suggestions too. Eric
ReplyDeleteYou had a great guest today. I really liked 1857 but now I drink Lionshead. I vote for Summer Stock. Marty KO
ReplyDeleteThis may sound crazy but what about a Baltic version of Stegmaier Porter? Randy
ReplyDeleteI think Randy may be on to something but I'd rather see a Russian Imperial Stout. I love just their regular Porter. As you said on the show the Licorice Porter sounded interesting too. Owen
ReplyDeleteGreat show today. I really like the local guests best and I drink Stegmaier beers all the time. I liked Brewhouse Bock so that's my vote. What's your vote Bill?
ReplyDeleteRyan W
I like all of the suggestions so far Ryan. My two favorites are not likely to be financially feasible but I'd love to see a winter Imperial IPA or a winter English Barleywine. I can certainly get behind the idea of an Oatmeal or cherry stout as well.
ReplyDeleteWow I love your ideas too Bill. I'd like a Stegmaier Stout.
ReplyDeleteGary T
A stout would be good.
ReplyDeleteTJ
I vote for something dark. I like the baltic porter idea and the oatmeal stout idea. Is Lion doing barrels yet? Greg
ReplyDeleteGreg...Lion did some experimentation with barrels a few years ago with Winter Warmer and it came out really nice but I don't think there are any plans beyond that.
ReplyDeleteHi WILK. I could not think of a better set of local beer to have on the show and a better guest. Nice job Leo. We love the Porter.

Thank you to Leo Orlandini for joining us today to sample Stegmaier Porter & Winter Warmer. We always love having Leo on the show and we really enjoyed the beer today.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure to be on the show today. It was great seeing Bil, John and Nancy again. I truly enjoy when we have the opportunity to be on the show. We appreciate your support of the Lion Brewery. Thank you for all of the great ideas for our next seasonal.
