Troegs Mad Elf Coming 10/15! / Scratch Updates (Rye IPA, Fresh Hop & Pumpkin)

imageI’m excited to report that Troegs Mad Elf bottles will hit the shelves on Oct 15th, with draft following in Mid-Nov.  Photo above (10/5) from Troegs tagged “It’s Here!” and this from Troegs:

You can always tell that the holidays are right around the corner when Christmas displays begin popping up in department stores all across the country. Here at Tröegs, it isn’t officially Christmas until Mad Elf is released. Well folks, Christmas is upon us! The bottled version of Mad Elf is slated to hit the streets on October 15, with a draft release to follow in mid-to-late November. Festive and exuberant, Mad Elf is our nod to the hectic holiday season. Revered by beer geeks far and wide, The Mad Elf Ale weighs in at 11% ABV and features the lavish combination of chocolate malt, spicy Belgian yeast, sweet and sour cherries, and Pennsylvania honey. Get yours right away, because when the Elf goes into hiding, he won’t appear again until next year!

Scratch Beer Updates:

Rye IPA – Brewed in celebration of a Tröegs employee’s upcoming wedding, Scratch #77 is an IPA at heart with a spicy rye malt base. Brewed exclusively with Galaxy hops, it embodies the essence of passionfruit. We’re sure you’ll love this beer and will answer “I do” when someone asks if you’d like another. Available on draft only.

Fresh Hop Ale – On Tuesday, September 18, we received two palettes – that’s 400 pounds – of freshly picked Citra hops from B.T. Loftus Ranches in Yakima, WA. So, what do you do with a truckload of these glorious green cones? Get brewing right away, of course! Our brewers are hoping to rekindle the magic of past Fresh Hop Scratch beers with this latest Scratch creation. Expect an early October release. Available in bottles and on draft.

Pumpkin Beer – In an effort to brew outside of our comfort zone, we are pleased to announce the first-ever Tröegs Pumpkin beer. John Trogner hopes to push the boundaries of our Scratch beer system with this particular one-off release. To start, we’re using in-house roasted longneck pumpkins from Strite’s Orchard and traditional autumn spices such as cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. We also chose to ferment the beer with Saison yeast, which will complement the spicy harvest flavors. We’re hoping this inaugural pumpkin beer will give you something to look forward to this fall! Available on draft only

Dead Reckoning

To celebrate the harvest season, we recently released our fall seasonal, Dead Reckoning Porter. Dead Reckoning will be available throughout our distribution area during the month of October, so be sure stock up on this robust beer as the cooler weather approaches. You can also stop by our Tasting Room to get your Dead Reckoning fix.

How much longer until it is released in august, a few years maybe? Maybe that will coincide with when oktoberfests become available in June.

  2. Thanks Prof...we've certainly been down this road with pumpkin & fest ales, and while I agree with you I do understand the reasons. This is the distribution chain we have and unfortunately because of brewing schedules and limited warehouse capacity, brewers have few financially feasible choices. and by the way I'm actually OK drinking Mad Elf in August!
