RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia Craft Brewers Guild (Guild), the Virginia Manufacturers Association (VMA), the Governor’s Office and the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) dedicated August as Virginia Craft Beer Month and unveiled the new VTC “Love on Tap” campaign. Tourists will be encouraged to enjoy the many events across the Commonwealth promoting craft beer and local tourism resources next month. The VTC also launched their new craft beer website that features a calendar of events as well as map of craft breweries. Go to http://www.Virginia.org/CraftBeer for more information.

The General Assembly passed HJR 522 this session commending the Guild on its work and designating August as Virginia Craft Beer Month. The Chief Patron of the House Joint Resolution was Delegate Betsy Carr and she was joined by Delegates Bell, Bell, Cline, Crockett-Stark, Greason, Landes, Loupassi, McQuinn, Tyler and Senators Barker, Deeds and McEachin on the bill. In fact, the Travel Channel recently named Virginia a “Top 7 Beer Destination.” The author wrote, “The entire state of Virginia is so obsessed with its beer culture, it is officially naming the month of August ‘Virginia Craft Brew Month’.”

“Virginia’s craft beer industry has been fortunate to have such dedicated support from the Virginia General Assembly and Governor McDonnell. The VTC’s creativity has been nothing short of exemplary. We anticipate 100 craft breweries to operate in Virginia within a decade at this rate of growth.” stated Brett Vassey, President & CEO of the Virginia Manufacturers Association.

The Guild also announced at today’s dedication ceremony that the premiere event of Virginia Craft Beer Month will be its Virginia Craft Brewers Fest – August 25 at Devils Backbone Brewery in Nelson County near the beautiful Wintergreen Resort. The event will bring together Virginia craft breweries to promote the craft brewing industry and the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild. The event will feature the Virginia Craft Beer Cup competition with 5 Categories and the Cup being awarded to the best overall brewery. The event will also include beer tastings, some of Virginia’s best live bands, an amazing food experience by The Rock Barn, the Devils Backbone Mountain Cross bike race and onsite camping at the foot of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Muareen Kelley, Director – Nelson County Economic Development & Tourism Office, commented, “The Guild has become a collection of local establishments where both visitors and locals taste the richness of Virginia. Visitors come to enjoy the craft beer and locally-sourced, seasonal foods – often combining this celebratory consumption with exploration of the tourism assets near them and the rich cultural heritage and events of the region. Virginia’s deep-rooted cultural appreciation for all things local, sustainable, and artisanal is central to the emergence and success of these individual establishments – and to the growing success of the Virginia craft brewers guild as a unified voice for the industry.”

The Virginia Craft Brewers Fest is expected to attract nearly 1,000 people from across the Mid-Atlantic and will feature For the complete press release, please click here.
