Brew Dog Tokyo Rising Sun (Aged 4-Years!)

Exciting news from Brew Dog:

We have 8 bits of random news. For your convenience, we numbered them.

1) Tokyo Rising Sun

Brewed in May 2008. And then forgotten about. A beautiful accident. An unsuspecting masterpiece. A beery time capsule. This imperial stout has been aged in a Scotch whisky cask for over 4 years. For more than 48 long months this beer lay hidden in oak in the depths of our north east of Scotland warehouse.

When we brewed the first ever batch of Tokyo, we decided to fill three whisky casks, two Highland and one Lowland. Tokyo Rising Sun is the result.

We cannot decide if it is a good or bad thing that we managed to forget about these barrels for 4 years. It is definitely a good thing we found them.

Lowland Edition Tasting Notes: aged in a Lowland whisky cask resulting in decadent chocolate, toasted vanilla, indulgent spiced fruit, a mesmerizingly hypnotic mouth-feel and new layers which emerge on every sip. Drink it now or age it for another 4 years.

Highland Edition Tasting Notes: aged in a Highland whisky cask resulting in a viscous slow motion roller coaster of powdered cacao, hints of burning pirate ships, salted caramel, sharp berries and toasted marshmallow. Best enjoyed with a dose of vagrant optimism.

A headline in the Sun from 2008, when we launched the original Tokyo at 12% abv.

We only have a few hundred bottles and the beer will be available online in mid June and available exclusively to our shareholders first.

BrewDog rocked an awesome outdoor bar at last weekend's whisky stramash in Edinburgh at the beautiful Surgeon's Hall venue. Over 5,000 visitors attended and enjoyed Paradox, Punk & 5am Saint.

4) Bar Managers Meeting

All our bar managers and assistant managers descended on Aberdeen on Monday and Tuesday for some BrewDog Bar Planning (and beer drinking). Here are the hardcore scamps and scampettes (can you spot your favourite?).

5) Awards!

Along with the stellar Manifest Team we picked up some awards for our marketing. We even got the Gran Prix award at the Drum Awards. Contrary to what the name implies, this award was not for driving. It is nice to get an actual award after the Diageo shambles.

6) Caramalt Tea

I have become obsessed with caramalt tea (we have plenty of caramalt here!) - it is like having a mini mash tun on my desk.

7) Birra del Borgo collaboration

1hop_540

Graeme was in Italy over the last few days to brew the Birra del Borgo & BrewDog collaboration. They brewed a peated IPA which is being fermented and aged in wooden vats.

You can read more about the beer on the del Borgo blog here http://birradelborgo.it/blog/collaborazioni/1559/la-reale-si-mette-il-kilt/

They are going to send us some kegs when the beer is ready to rock - look out for in in our bars.

8) New Website

We are working on a brand new BrewDog website which will be live in late June. The current website is now 5 years old, and although still good, we felt we could make it much better. Here are some screen shots.
