Merlyn Brewing Co Coming BIG in May 2012

I’m excited to be the first to report that upstart Merlyn Brewing Co (Facebook page coming soon) will be opening their doors in Sinlahekin, WA in May 2012.  Co-Owners Tom & Sherman Merlyn plan to start brewing in a pretty big way.  Both brothers have an extensive home-brewing background and Sherman is a recent Siebel grad…but the big news is size.  With financing from their family background in trucking, the Merlyns plans to start on a 50bbl Rolec brewhouse and get this…the barrel-house they are building is over 1500 sq ft.  Yes I said, “Barrel House!”  While initial distribution is keg-only in the northwest, I am hearing that they have already placed an order on a bottling line, and with an overall 7000 sq ft facility, it seems like space is no problem.  No details yet on distribution, but the rumors I’m hearing DO include the east coast, and with a family trucking business, I suspect they are true.  SO what about the beer?  The brews are based on their previous homebrew recipes, and their initial beers will include a Belgian barrel-aged Brown to be named St Bentley, an Irish Red to be called O’Malley’s Red Revenge, a low ABV spring wheat to be named EbiWeisse and a barrel-aged double IPA to be named Brother Scrappy’s Hopper.  I expect more details soon so stay tuned here for more info…
