Jester King / Mikkeller Texas Beer Geek Brunch

imageBased on the Ruling from Texas ABC, Jester King Brewing will now potentially change the name of their Mikkeller co-Brew.  Originally the law prohibited them from using the word “beer” on beverages over 5% ABV so the name they were forced to use was “Ale/Malt Liquor in TX Geek Brunch”.  Now they can go for the name they preferred “Texas Beer Geek Brunch.”

For the full details from Jester King…

You may remember that back in November we had our open brew day with Mikkeller where we brewed Ale/Malt Liquor in TX Geek Brunch, a strong stout brewed with smoked malt, chipotle peppers and Vietnamese weasel coffee. We ended up sending the first batch to oak, whiskey barrels for aging. Last month we brewed Batch No. 2, which we have scheduled for release in March. We plan on having a release party similar to the one we had last March for the release of our first collaboration beer with Mikkeller – Drink 'in the Sunbelt.

We’re actually still deciding whether to stick with the name “Ale/Malt Liquor in TX Geek Brunch” following our partial lawsuit victory against TABC, which allows us to call beer over 5% alcohol by volume “beer”. We can now legally call the beer “Texas Beer Geek Brunch” as we had originally intended.
