We’ve heard all of the chatter about New Belgium Brewing coming to PA, but now comes word that Philadelphia is one of four locations that New Belgium is considering for a production brewery on the east coast. Previously Asheville NC was named, and I suspect once again Tennessee is also in on the possibilities, but no details beyond that. Looks like NB is aiming to do site visits in the next few weeks with a decision to be made by the end of the year…so stay tuned.
And this from NC courtesy of the abclocal may make it harder for Philly: The General Assembly has agreed to let larger beer-makers sell their product on site in a move supporters argue will attract a pair of breweries to set up in the North Carolina mountains and potentially generate 300 jobs
It would be great for them to come to the Philly area but is PA really conducive for new business? I have heard things about Asheville offering multi-million dollar incentives so, what will PA or the community they are looking at offer NBB? I totally support them coming to PA but.....
ReplyDeleteI believe NB sites ease of distribution and a thriving local craft beer culture as the two main reasons for considering Philly...but I'd agree that Asheville and some of the other southern communities have been offering up more incentives to the likes of Sierra Nevada and NB. Shoule be interesting to see if PA/Philly pony up some incentives too.
