Many craft beer lovers dream about not only brewing their own beer, but they also dream about opening their very own brewery. Today we were joined by Larry Degreen and Larry is living that dream. Larry is the founder and brewmaster for Purple Healer Brewing Co in Bloomsburg, PA. Purple Healer Brewing Co LLC is a nano-brewery “in progress” so it will be fun to follow along as Larry gets up to speed.
Today Larry was nice enough to bring up a few of his brews for us to try and we really enjoyed trying them all. There’s something special about sampling a beer with the man or woman that brewed that beer, and you get a really special insight into not only the beer but the brewing process….and we really enjoyed all of the beers, but especially the Ripinator Doppelbock.
Larry will also be pouring Purple Healer Brewing beers at this weekends (April 9th) Taming of the Brew event in Bloomsburg. Taming of the brew is a yearly beer & food event that benefits the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble. Taming of the Brew attracts some great breweries and restaurants and the event sells out the day ticket sales open just about every year, so if you don’t have a ticket already, start planning for next year.
Thanks
to Larry, Nancy, John, Joe, & Bosco for yet another fun Friday.
The Friday BeerBuzz…bringing good beers and good people together.

Nice show boys. I'll be at the Taming event Saturday and say Hi to Larry. Thanks for putting him on the air.
ReplyDeleteA common thread in so many brewers on the show is that someone gave them a beer 'kit' as a gift. Larry took it and ran!
ReplyDeleteThree excellent beers and we're anticipating an announcement in May possibly about when, where Purple Healer will become available to the public!
And Larry mentioned he's working on an IPA? Sign me up Larry!
As always Bill, great show, thanks!

Larry gives us hope that us home-brewers may be able to rise and make this a career. The beer sounds great.
ReplyDeleteJames
Purple healer sound slike thay are doing some pretty good traditional bavarian lagers. Cheers to that and see you tomorrow Larry.
ReplyDeleteJason P
A+ as always buzzers.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great story about the naming of the brewery. We love Bloomsburg and can't wait to see another brewery in town. We'll be watching Larry!
ReplyDeleteChris from Bloom
I love the show and today was one of the best. Thank you for bringing us a local beer that I haven't even heard of. Now I have to go out and try to brew myself. Thanks Bill.
ReplyDeleteAmy
I agree with Amy. You guys were funny today and your guest was a good one. I know just by the sound of your voices that Purple Healer beers are good. Good call buzz crew.
ReplyDeleteTaming of the Brew is a great event. COngratulations to Larry for pouring there. I'll stop by and say hi.
ReplyDeleteJJ
I'll be there taming some of your brews Larry. See you Sat.
ReplyDeleteArmand (Bloomsburg)
I love the craft beer stats. Who knew great beers were selling so well. I also love the fact that even though I'm a craft beer lover, you manage to surprise me every week with a great new stat or beer. Thanks for doing this show.
ReplyDeleteCheers
John
Thanks everyone. I'd agree that Larry was a great guest, his beers were first-class, and the Taming of the Brew event will be a great one this year. Be sure to stop by and tell Larry that the Friday BeerBuzz sent you ;)
ReplyDeleteYou guys rock!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. You finally found a brewery I've never tasted on the show. Good thing I'll be at the Taming this Saturday.
ReplyDeleteJack James
I like traditional German beers so it's exciting to see another brewery making them. I like an hour or so away from Bloomsburg, but we'll definitely make the ride up when Larry gets up to speed.
ReplyDeleteRyan W
Drink Local!
ReplyDeleteThanks Larry!
Once again, Bosco nails the music. Purple Healer and Deep Purple! Nice! Cheers to Bosco.
ReplyDeleteThat's right, the music was great. I always laugh at that part. You guys have a great sense of musical humor.
ReplyDeleteDan (Dallas, PA)
It's nice to see someone making a success out of brewing beer. It gives me hope that someday I can be in a business where I love what I do, like brewing beer. Cheers to Larry!
ReplyDeleteHalpo
You never know Halpo. We've presented many brewers on the show that started small and now are living the dream. Don't give up!
ReplyDeleteFunny how many breweries are named after pets. I love it!
ReplyDeleteSue
Very good show today. I love you guest too. Purple Healer is a name you have to love.
ReplyDeletePaul from Mountaintop
I'll e-Mail you about Saris beer. I have some questions.
ReplyDeleteDrop me an e-Mail mybeerbuzz@gmail.com and I'll be happy to help. You won't find it in PA and you're not very likely to find it elsewhere in the states at this point. Sorry, but there are other alternatives that should be close like Pislner Urquell.
ReplyDeleteThank you
ReplyDeleteWe did our first trip to Krugel's last week after the show. It's amazing. Beer bottles everywhere. We bought 7 or 8 different beers and really enjoyed them. Thanks to the beer buzz for turning us on to Krugels
ReplyDeleteI'll second that. Krugel's is an amazing beer store and good food.
ReplyDeleteMike Proo
Any chance you guys will feature one of the twisted teas?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that would be top on our list Anon, but you never know.
ReplyDeleteNice show today with Larry. Purple Healer is a great name.
ReplyDeleteTJ
I agree on Georgetown Deli. We shop there every Friday for the weekend and the staff is always helpful. Cheers to a great beer store.
