Back on New Years Day I made a beerbuzz resolution to bring you flavorful, easy-drinking, readily available and easily affordable beers on our show…and I’m proud to say I’ve found another great one.
We rolled through all of the great late-winter hoppy-beers, so as we enter the first full week of spring, I decided to bring you a traditional Spring Bock beer, and that beer is Sierra Nevada Glissade. Spring bock beers are meant to bridge the gap between the heavy winter styles of beer and the lighter summer brews; so it’s a perfect time of year to enjoy a bock. Glissade is a term used to describe a mountaineering technique of sliding down a snow-covered slope, and as Sierra Nevada puts it…”As winter begins its slide toward the sunny days of spring, we bring you Glissade Golden Bock to help you enjoy the ride.”
Sierra Nevada Glissade is a traditional Maibock, with Mai referring to “May” and bock simply referring to a strong lager. Glissade uses very traditional spicy & floral German hops to balance out the European malts producing a well balanced and drinkable brew with notes of bread-crust and grains.
We should also note that my clue for the week referred to this as a “green” beer..and nothing could be more true. Sierra Nevada is one of the leaders in environmentally friendly brewing. Not only do they have one of the largest privately owned solar arrays in the US, but they are also very close to creating Zero-waste at their state-of-the-art Chico, CA facility. Sierra Nevada is also about to opening their very first canning line, so watch for classic beers like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale to start showing up in a can.
Be sure to check out Sierra Nevada Glissade and try it for yourself. Congratulations to everyone on the Friday BeerBuzz team for winning the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters award for Outstanding Radio Feature Series!
Thanks
to Nancy, John, Joe, & Bosco for yet another fun Friday.
The Friday BeerBuzz…bringing good beers and good people together.

I always knew you guys were different so I have to say congratulations, but it's no surprise the buzz won an award. Your show has been great all along so it's nice to see you gain some deserved recognition.
ReplyDeleteRyan W
Glissade is one of my favorites. I actually try to save some as a swimming pool beer. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your award. You all deserve it for bringing us the great beer!
ReplyDeleteThis is probably my least favorite Sierra Nevada beer, but it's still a very good beer, just not my favorite son.
ReplyDeleteI thought you were joking, but I checked it out. The PA Assoc of Broadcasters award is a really big recognition for any TV or radio show. Congratulations. You guys do deserve it.
ReplyDeleteAmy
Is this beer available locally?
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. We're really excited to have won the PAB award...we love doing the show, so to be recognized is icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteand yes Glissade is available at Krugel's Georgetown Deli & Beer (assuming you are local to me)
I think I spit out my coffee when you played GLEE as your music for Glissade. Brilliant! and funny.
ReplyDeletePlease please please let me be a guest drinker on the show?!
ReplyDeleteChris
Thanks Chris. Stay tuned for future appearances. While we may not be able to have everyone in the studio as guest drinkers, we can invite everyone to our sampling events. We're mapping out a future event now so stay tuned to sample with us again.
ReplyDeleteAfter two weeks off (even if we were in the Caribbean being waited on hand and foot aboard the Explorer of the Seas) I'm just darn glad to be back.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've never met a Sierra Nevada I didn't like! Try some Glissade from Krugel's, free advice!
Great job Bill, as always.

This beer is perfect for your resolution. It's really affordable and really easy drinking. I want more beers like this on the show. I like the big ones but I usually buy the regular ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anon. Message received. While I will always bring in big beers and some really rare beers, I do plan to focus on flavorful, easy-drinking, readily available and easily affordable beers.
ReplyDeleteMy dad worked for 20-years in radio and never won a PAB so a heartfelt congratulations to all of you for the award. It is well deserved Bill.
ReplyDeleteKristi
Welcome back Nancy & Webster. We missed you on the buzz. Joe did a great job but we love the chemisrty when you're all there. Glissade is a beer I'm not familiar with, although I do like most bock beers. I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteSteve A
Good beer and good show as always. I've never tried Glissade and I love SN beers.
ReplyDeleteAJ
Too light for me. I like dark bocks.
ReplyDeleteThank you all. and yes this is a lighter bock, but it's still 6.4% ABV...keep in mind not all bocks are dark and not all dark bocks are strong....there are all sorts of combinations and most are pretty strong. Bock=Strong Lager
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Old Forge Brewing news. I live in Danville and hadn't heard the news. Very exciting for our little town.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone hitting the Shadowbrook beer festival this Saturday?
ReplyDeleteTJames
The guys from Breaker Brewing Co are pouring at the Shadowbrook festival so I'm trying to get up there to say hi....and I agree...great news for Damian & OFBC
ReplyDeleteVisited georgetown Deli last week for the first time and all I can say is wow. They have a lot of different beer, beer on tap, we had a great hoagie and the staff were all very nice. They helped my husband pick out a beer and find two friday beer buzz beers too. Thanks for recommending them.
ReplyDeleteJenna
A + beer A+ show and the award speaks for itself.
ReplyDeleteHey...I didn't realize the show sort of continues on after the break.
ReplyDeleteAndy
Yes Andy..sometimes after we talk to Corbett & Snedecker we do a quick comment (something we forgot to do on the show or meant to mention) but most of the time we don't have time. I'm usually in the studio before and after the show, but I'm usually not on mic unless a question comes up....but you should all stay tuned for the entire half hour just in case. You never know when Corbett or Snedecker are going to talk beer ;)
ReplyDeleteDo you guys use real glasses?
ReplyDeleteYes Anon...we use 4oz taster glasses most of the time. If we have multiple beverages on a show we have to use plastic, but I think proper tasting glassware is important, so I try to avoide plastic where possible.
ReplyDeleteI don't like bock beers.
ReplyDeleteKeep an open mind Anon...saying I don't like bock beers is like saying I don't like ice cream. There are many styles and flavors of bock brews so be sure to try a few before you dismiss them.
ReplyDeleteLove your website and I just started listening to the show a few months ago. Congratulations on the award. How about comparing two beers of the same style.
ReplyDeleteMarty
Welcome on board Marty...I love comparing beers on the show...we've done a few in the past and we'll definitely do it again in the future.
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions?
Maybe a brown Ale?
ReplyDeleteMarty
Not a bad idea Marty. I don't think we've featured a true brown-ale yet so you never know.
ReplyDeleteYou guys sounded great today. Chemistry is what wins awards and you guys have it. Congrats buzzers!
ReplyDeleteSam
Congratulations Friday BeerBuzz! or should I say award-winning Friday BeerBuzz :)
ReplyDeleteI want to taste the Mr Beer you brew. Seriously I do...can we do a tasting event?
ReplyDeleteIf it's awful you'll never see it again...otherwise I'll definitely share it.
ReplyDeleteYour Glee music was hilarious, and of course I love the beer too.
ReplyDeleteJake
Don't stop believin! (in beer that is :)
ReplyDeleteThanks guys and thanks Bosco...the music as inspired for sure ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your award buzzers. You all deserve it.
ReplyDeleteJason
You can throw a rock into the Sierra Nevada warehouse and not hit a bad beer. I love all of their stuff, and i never heard of Glissade so I'll be sure to get me some this weekend. Cheers and congrats to you all.
ReplyDeleteJohn Kemper
Thanks John. I'd agree. I'm working my way through a case of their new Hoptimum Imperial IPA and it is 1st class. I'm also finishing up our 2010 Celebration and anxiously awaiting their Hemisphere beers too.
