Today we welcomed Mike Simmons, brewing supervisor for Lion Brewery to help us sample their Stegmaier Winter Warmer. Winter Warmer is their re-labeled Holiday Warmer winter seasonal. Mike tells me the recipe is mostly unchanged, but the packaging was redone to extend the season of this beer beyond the holidays. I can tell you from personal experience that this beer is great right out of the box, but it gets even better as you age it. I personally have some 2009 Steg Holiday Warmer and it tastes great. It was also a lot of fun to have Shadoe Steel join us for the Friday BeerBuzz; so be sure to tune into Saturday Night Live at the Oldies on WILK every Saturday night with Shadoe.
Lion Brewery is always fun to have in the studio with us, especially because of the sheer size of the brewery and the multiple brews they now contract brew. Add to this the new canning line that’s up and running, and there are some really exciting things coming out of Lion Brewery.
AND you heard it here FIRST. Lion Brewery will be brewing some one-off beers to bridge the gaps between their seasonal Stegmaier offerings so Stay Tuned!!! You’ll find the details here First!
Be sure to TRY some Winter Warmer, BUY some Winter Warmer and even AGE some Winter Warmer for yourself!
Thanks
to Mike, Shadoe, John, Nancy, Joe & Bosco for yet another fun Friday.
The Friday Beerbuzz…bringing good beers and good people together.

/ WILK Friday BeerBuzz–10 Dec 2010 (Stegmaier Winter Warmer)
Great show guys. I really think the Stegmaier beers are underrated. Winter Warmer is a great winter beer and for the price you can't beat their beers. It was also nice to hear Shdow Steele on the radio with you guys. Always a fun Friday BeerBuzz.
ReplyDeleteStegmaier Winter Warmer is an excellent beer!
ReplyDeleteLion consistently makes good beers and at phenomenal prices. So get some Steg Winter Warmer, you'll be glad you did.
Thanks to Mike for being on the show and as always, thanks Bill for making it happen.
Cheers!
John

One of my favorite holiday seasonals (Winter Warmer).
ReplyDeleteMarty
Just bought a case of their IPA and a case of Pale Ale. These are a great value.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys. I could not agree more...although I'd argue that Stegmaier beers are great beers at ANY price.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to stop down to Krugel's for the tasting of Stegmaier Winter Warmer tonight from 5-7PM
Be sure to also check out the Bart & Urby's Stegmaier Beer Dinner Dec 12th 1PM....6-courses 6-Steg beers!
I've been meaning to try this one since last yeat. Of course when you guys put it on I have to try it now. My wife is now accustomed to hitting Krugel's for lunch every Friday. Now how can I trick her into going back for the 5PM tasting =}

I can't wait to hear the holiday show. You guys are funny and give me some great beer advice in the time your on now. With an hour it should be awsome. Looking forward to the show.

John. How do I get a job like yours?
ReplyDeletegreat show.
ReplyDeleteWho knew Shadow knows beers. Mike was a nice guest too. It's always fun hearing beers from our local market. Keep up the good work buzzers.
ReplyDeleteSteve W
Krugels has been a great thing for our area. Glad to see they sponsor our beer show. You guys are making a big difference in our local beer market and for that we all say cheers! SO when can we expect a Sam beer?
ReplyDeleteJason
Thanks Jason. I'm SURE we'll be doing more than one Dogfish Head beer soon. So how are you with Chicha? ;)
ReplyDeleteChicha is that saliva beer? I'm not sure I can get behind that.
ReplyDeleteJason
PS thanks for answering
Jason...even I hesitate when someone says spit-beer. I try to answer everything I can so no thank you necessary.
ReplyDeleteAny chance we'll see Winters Bourbon Cask before the holidays. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteMartin
Martin. I tried Winters Bourbon Cask last year and I was surprise to find it was an Anheuser-Busch brew. It's a touch watery for my taste, but not a bad beer at all. From a show standpoint, we have next week's beer ready and that's it before our HOUR LONG HOLIDAY SPECIAL! on Xmas and New Year's eve so it's not likely but thanks for the suggestion. Please do keep them up.
ReplyDeleteCheers from Tunkhannock to Mike Simmons! Great show Mike.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Tunkhannock. Mike did a great job and it was a lot of fun having him on the Friday BeerBuzz.
ReplyDeleteLove to see the local beers featured on WILK. You guys do a great show.
ReplyDeleteAlan (Simpson)
A+ buzzers. You've featured two of our local breweries in a row, both featured their holiday beer and you have the big boys and the small guys too. Great coverage of our local beer scene. WILK Friday BeerBuzz rules!
ReplyDeleteNice show nice beer!
ReplyDeleteI'm a regular listener and you guys are fun to listen to every week. Who knew there were so many great beers.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge winter beer fan so I'm not sure on this one.
ReplyDeleteAmy
Amy sounds like a good reason to get to Krugel's tonight form 5-7PM to sample it first!
ReplyDeleteHad to work to find this in the HBG area but am glad I did find a case. Now if they would only bring back liebotschaner as promised...
ReplyDeleteYes, Amy, step out of your comfort zone for this one. it's only beer after all.
Thanks Lee...readily available up our way.
ReplyDeleteyou never know ;)
You guys are doing the best beer show by a long shot. I love the video and Beer Cam is genius. I only wish the show was on TV too. How about I start the campaign to put the Friday BeerBuzz on FOX!
ReplyDeleteJamie
Thanks Jamie. Begin the campaign ;)
ReplyDeletePlenty of all the Steg beers in State College at Pletcher's...$21.99 a case! MBB, do you know the ABV of the Winter Warmer?
ReplyDeleteGreat news on the one-offs! The NEPA version of the Scratch Series is on it's way. Can't wait!!
Thanks Sam...as steal in my book. The WInter Warmer is 7.2% ABV
ReplyDeleteI agree Sam. Can't wait to see what they brew and as Mike said on our show (fridaybeerbuzz.com) these will be like nothing you've ever seen coming out of Lion.
