WILK Friday BeerBuzz–5 Nov 2010 (Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale vs Blue Point Toxic Sludge IPA)

WILKFridayBerbuzz15The Friday BeerBuzz Team is a generous and giving group.  We love sharing our beer and we do whatever it takes to make our local beer-loving listeners happy.  It was challenging and fun to feature two different beers on the Friday BeerBuzz today, but we did it all for you..the beer lover…and here’s why.  Keep in mind that this week (11/5) is our FIRST EVER Friday BeerBuzz Live appearance.  We’ll be pouring samples of BOTH Blue Point Toxic Sludge IPA and Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale at Krugel’s Georgetown Deli & Beer (Rt 309 by the Big Cow in Wilkes-Barre Twp) from 5-7PM…..AND we figured if you’re going to come out and have a beer with the Friday BeerBuzz team…we should offer up not one, but TWO BEERS!   AND don’t forget that the lovely Mrs BeerBuzz will be operating BEER CAM at Krugel’s so be sure to say hi to BEER CAM and you’ll be included in the BEER CAM video for the Krugel’s appearance!
We recently sampled another Stone brew with Mitch Steele, Head Brewer for Stone Brewing on the Friday BeerBuzz, and Mitch mentioned that one of his favorite Stone beers is Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale.  Of course this beer has also been a favorite of mine, so I thought it was a perfect beer to compare.

Next we chose Blue Point Toxic Sludge IPA as our second dark IPA contender.  I’ve been enjoying Blue Point’s Pale Ale, and I love the fact that all proceeds from the sale of Toxic Sludge support the BP oil-spill bird clean-up efforts in the Gulf of Mexico.  This made it an easy choice….and when you’re talking Escondido California versus Long Island New York, there are no losers.

First let me say this is a comparison of beers and not intended to pick a winner.  These are two great beers so the real winner here is all of us who get to sample and enjoy these two great brews.  Second, let me remind you that these are both locally available beers…and third let me remind you AGAIN, to come out to Krugel’s Georgetown Deli & Beer TONIGHT from 5-7PM to sample these beers with us.  You know you’ve always wanted to come out and have a beer with the Friday BeerBuzz team….well tonight’s your night.  Mark your dance cards and get to Krugel’s!

A really fun show and TWO really tasty beers!…
Thanks
to  John, Nancy, Joe & Bosco (GREAT music Bosco!) for yet another fun Friday.
The Friday Beerbuzz…bringing good beers and good people together

You lost me. These beers share a ber-style, but beyond that I'm not aware of any connection between the breweries.

  10. I love Sublimely and I think the Toxic is a great choice. I applaud the beer buzz team for supporting the rescue and rehab of our gulf shore birds. I'm not a big beer drinker but I can certainly get behind and beer that benefits animals. Nancy & Webster I also thank you for the animal house segment.

  11. I've been suggesting you compare two beers for a few months, so even though you didn't use the two I suggested I do appreciate you doing a two-beer compare. Now please do mine.

    Jerry (Shav)

PS I am just kidding. Thank you.

  12. Jerry:

I haven't forgotten you. And we may do your two beers when things settle down a little. It's a great idea and I appreciate the suggestion. I'll buy you a Toxic and Self-righteous tonight as a thank you ;)

I prefer to be called an Veritable Encyclopedia of beer knowledge but I'll take it. I'm kidding for sure, but thank you. I am a student of the beer and I try to "study" when I can.

  15. I've listened to every show. I even woke my wife up on vacation to listen in on-line in Aug. I love what you guys are doing and I hit Krugel's almost once a week now. I didn't even know they were there befor eyou guys. The show has been amazing (how did you get Terry last week!?) I think the beer questions are a great idea and I'll send some in but the best part is Bosco's music!

  17. Are Krugels pouring bottles or kegs?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anon. It is my understanding we'll be pouring samples on DRAFT, but they will be selling bottles for those that want to take some home. They'll also be selling several other draft beers (in glasses and growlers) including Bavarian Barbarian/Bullfrog Brewing GOTHIKA...AND bottles you can drink there or take home AND great food you can eat there or take home. Sounds like a win win win to me....and of course we'll all be there to say hi and talk beer!
