We’ve been fortunate enough to have some great guests join us in the studio for the Friday BeerBuzz. I was really excited to welcome this week’s guest, a) so I finally had the chance to meet this busy brewmaster, and more importantly b) so I finally had a chance to taste his fall seasonal beer. Today we welcomed Damien Malfara from Old Forge Brewing Company in Danville, PA and we sampled Damien’s fall seasonal Smashin’ Pumpkin Ale. Old Forge Brewing Company (OFBC) is relatively new, opening their doors on Dec 5th 2008, and I’m happy to report they have already expanded their capacity to keep up with demand. I also really love the theme of OFBC. Damien and wife Maria highlight craftsmanship in many ways at OFBC. From the locally grown produce to the hand crafted mug rack, mug club mugs, restaurant booths and of course their hand-crafted beers. All in all a unique brewpub and wonderful tribute to craftsmanship.
It was really fun tasting such a great Pumpkin Ale, with the young man that hand crafted this beer and based on the fact that this beer is made with real pumpkins, I think I have some idea where the Smashin’ Pumpkin Ale moniker came from. This is a very tasty beer so be sure to take the ride to Mill St in Danville to check out all of Damien’s brews.
A really fun guest and a really tasty beer!…
Thanks
to Damien, John, Nancy, Joe & Bosco for yet another fun Friday.
The Friday Beerbuzz…bringing good beers and good people together.

/ WILK Friday BeerBuzz – 22 Oct 2010 (Old Forge Brewing Company Smashin’ Pumpkin)
Old Forge is a very undersung brewery. Thanks for publicizing what we think is a great brewery that doesn't get enough local press. We love overbite IPA and I congratulate Damien and the Friday BeerBuzz team for a great show.

I agree. Old Forge Brewing company just quietly makes great hand crafted beers. Much deserved publicity for Damien and kudos to WILK for getting him on the air.
ReplyDeleteJason J
We love pumpkin fest at Old Forge. Be sure to try the Pumpkin Pretzels.
ReplyDeleteJJ
I haven't been to Old Forge yet but I just have to try a pumpkin beer with pumpkin mashed potatoes. Save me some Damien! Looking forward to when we can get Old Forge on tap in WB/Scranton.
ReplyDeleteAce
Great idea Damien. Locally grown produce, hand crafted atmosphere and hand-crafted beers. We love OFBC and we'll be visiting again this weekend to try the pumpkin ale.
ReplyDeleteRyan W
I have never been to Old Forge Brewing but I think I need to make a point to take a ride to Danville!
ReplyDeleteGreat meeting Damien Malfara this morning, a pleasure to have him on the show and his Smashin' Pumpkin was really good, not your standard "what you'd expect" pumpkin beer. Just the way I like it, not sweet, not clove-y, tasted like...fall!
A quick reminder, put Friday 11/5 on your calendar...The Friday BeerBuzz "Live" is coming to Krugel's Georgetown Deli & Beer, 5 to 7PM!
Great job once again Bill, thanks for another outstanding show!

Thanks everyone. I'd agree. It was a lot of fun having Damien in the studio today and we REALLY enjoyed the Smashin' Pumpkin Ale. OFBC is a great destination, especially now with the fall foliage in full-color AND the upcoming pumpkin festival....who wouldn;t love a great Pumpkin Ale with a pumpkin pretzel!?
ReplyDeleteThanks Damien. Much deserved publicity for sure and we're happy to help!
Great show. I'm always amazed at the great beer guests you keep presenting on the show. I'll be sure to check out Old Forge next weekend.

I've met Damien at OFBC and he's a great guy. Thanks for getting him on the show. We love Smashin' pumpkin.

A+ buzzers. Where's the video?
ReplyDeleteI haven't met a pumpkin ale I liked until last week. I really like the one you did last week and I'll be sure to try this one. I live in Bloom and believe it or not I didn't know about Old Forge brewery until today.
ReplyDeleteMartin (BloomU)
Thanks Nancy. I didn't know what a growler was either. I really like the beers you sample but the beer knowledge has been the best.
ReplyDeleteSteve WW
It had to be a lot of work doing real pumpkins. Congratulations to Damien for doing it the hard way but doing it right. Hand crafted beers should mean something and it does at Old Forge.
ReplyDeleteBob (Moosic)
Keep up the good work buzzers. Another fantastic guest from a local brewery.
ReplyDeleteI love 1979! Now you made me want to try this beer. :))
ReplyDeleteGood show guys.
We hit OFBC all the time. This is a great local brewery right in your back yard. Thanks for putting them on the air and on the map. Great people and really good brewing going on there.
ReplyDeleteMolly
Pumpkin Pretzels!
ReplyDeleteOFBC is one of my favorites and no one knows about it in the beer world. Great job Damien!
ReplyDeleteA++++
ReplyDeleteCan we get this beer locally?
ReplyDeleteYes Anon....you can get it locally at Old Forge Brewing Company in Danville, PA. Damien IS working on distributing his beers in the future (on tap) so stay tuned...but for now these are brewery-fresh beers only. Make the ride to Danville....you'll be happy you did.
ReplyDeleteGood show buzzers.
ReplyDeleteWait until you see the video. An unexpected technical issue has an unconventional video that's on the way. LOL....posting soon!
ReplyDeleteI had last years pumpkin at OFBC and it's a very good beer. Good job Damien.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy...thank god there's an APP for that!
ReplyDeleteBe sure to check out Damien's Ludwig's Revenge and Overbite IPA.
