More details to follow…but Stegmaier Summer Stock Pilsner was bottled yesterday!
Summer Stock is the Lion's take on a traditional Northern German pilsner. It uses 100% Cargill German Pils malt and Perle hops, with Ahtanum added for a subtle, refreshing lemongrass finish. The beer finished out at about 5% ABV and 25 IBUs. For this initial re-release it'll be available in its' own cases and six-packs as well as on draft.
an y idea whether this is the same recipe mor different from the first release a couple of years ago? It wasn't labeled as a pilsner at the time, just "lager."
ReplyDeleteI think it is pretty close to the original and I suspect the ingredients are even better. I'm not sure I remembe rthe original well enough to say but I'll let you know how it tastes.
ReplyDeleteThis from their original press release in March 2006
ReplyDeleteStegmaier Summer Stock Lager is a straw-colored traditional pilsner beer with golden highlights and a creamy white head. Its perceived citrus nose and supreme balance of malt and hops have essentially made this beer terrific thirst quencher for summer. Its crisp, clean and refreshing.
This is the original recipe, which always has been 100% Pils malt. We're trying to be more descriptive in our labeling (notice Amber now says "Vienna-style lager") so we wanted to indicate this is a German-style pilsener. It's truth in labeling and hopefully most people will see a point of difference from your standard American "pilsner".
ReplyDeleteThanks Darel...
ReplyDeletePicked up a 6 pack of this on a recommendation from a Berwick Brewing Co bartender. Just went out and got another case after the 6er was gone. It's quite tasty, and a nice departure from my norm of Yuengling and Lionshead.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us know Noah. This is a wonderful easy drinking summer beer....and a seasonal so get it while you can.
