Ah what fond memories I have of today’s label. When I first moved to Philadelphia, we had a Pathmark right across the street from my apartment. What could be more cheap and convenient, than supermarket beer? I present to you, Pathmark Premium Lager (sold in pints of course).
I don't recall ever seeing a 16 oz. NR from The Lion, so would Pathmark actually have been dealing with the hassle of returnable bottles?
ReplyDeleteBTW, for you returnable freaks out there (myself included) I hear that The Lion will be ending their production at the end of this year. Stock up now!
Say it aint so, Sam. Is that a definite? I've heard it before and they do have relatively new cases. Hopefully gibbons and bartels will make the switch to NR.
ReplyDeleteThat takes stoneys with it and leaves only straub and Yuengling returnables as far as I know.
Lee, they've been having increasing trouble with the 30+ year old bottles they're using and it tends to be messy when they run them. My source says that their demise will tie in to The Lion's starting up their new can line late this year or early next.
ReplyDeleteThe cases they use now are corrugated boxes that are not used more than once...that's why they look good. I'll be really sorry to see the Stoney's 16's go, as my Dad worked at Jones for 35 years.
Thanks. Yep, I know about your dad. Still looking forward to buying you a beer and hearing some old war stories next time i'm up your way.
