sounds like the only people who will be there will be the mayor and the brewmaster.
Come on!
I did ask and there will be the normal parking lot across the street, just NOT on the Lion grounds. I was dissapointed with this change but I'm sure there's a reason for it. There's always been a charge to buy the mug & refills so if my $3 gets me the mug and I've been paying for the beer anyway, then that's a wash. I actually think they're trying to make it simpler than the ticket system of previous years. Honestly even if it was $3 just to get in, I'm OK with that. Guess it will be the Mayor, the brewmasters and ME....and probably a few thousand other people. See you there...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the reason is they need to expand the fest into the back lot. It was shoulder-to-shoulder last year, and the on-site parking area is the only useable space to ease the crowding.
ReplyDeleteI've been to a number of brewery-sponsored events in my life, beginning with Jones Brewing Company's 75th anniversary party in 1982 (still the one to beat), but the Lion's Oktoberfest is by far the best of the rest. Been there twice, and hope to make it again this year. I agree with mybeerbuzz that the charge is a wash...you were paying for the mug, anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe entertainment is all top notch, the light show on the brewhouse wall is cool, and this year...fireworks! Worth three bucks anytime, my friend!
I understand that the party will be moving out of the brewery courtyard and into the parking lot out back, hence the parking change. There will be a HUGE tent set up there with draft trailers lined up down the middle serving the beer. More of a true German Oktoberfest feel this time around.
Anonymous, you gotta go with the flow and just PARTY, man! No wonder Al Quaeda hates us!!!
Good point and makes sense. I was thinking some sort of liability issue, but increasing the size of the event space makes much more sense. For thos ethat have not done it before, be sure to do the brewery tour and check out the HUGE lagering tanks.
ReplyDeleteCome on and support your local brewery. It is not a money making venture. It is to give back to the community and to make the community aware of the brewery.
ReplyDelete$3 bucks to get in is nothing and you get the mug. They had to move it to the parking lot because they needed room and there were a lot of liabilities from last years event. There will be a lot more room. The beer tents will be able to serve from both sides of the trailers, so you can get beer quicker and easier. BTW, this years Ofest is the best one yet!!!
