Sawbriar Brewery - Brewing Better Beer in Lafayette, LA

Jessica and John Beer Trippin'From Sawbriar Brewery’s Kickstarter Page:

Hi folks, my name is John Paul, and with my awesome wife, Jessica, we are opening the first Louisiana state-licensed microbrewery in the heart of Cajun Country. We need your help by backing this Kickstarter project to make it a success.

Sawbriar Brewery will be a friendly neighborhood microbrewery and taproom in downtown Lafayette, Louisiana, where we responsibly craft artisanal beer from unique ingredients while celebrating local art and music.

Why Sawbriar?

The name “Sawbriar” reflects our Louisiana roots. The sawbriar is a native plant common around the swampy woods of South Louisiana. They are deeply rooted in the Louisiana soil, tough and stubborn - kind of like us. Despite the thorny exterior, the sawbriar plants are a vital part of their ecosystem, providing food to the native wildlife and, historically, used to soothe the ailments of the local peoples. Like the sawbriar, we want our brewery to be a vital part of the community (and beer has been known to cure what ALES you!)

Our mission is to brew better beer for a better world. We make great beer while focusing on using responsible techniques and local ingredients.

With your help, our taproom will be your place away from home and work where you can interact with neighbors, make memories, live life, and have fun.

The Plan

Sawbriar Brewery will open in late 2018. Before we get there, we need your help to finish some things:

Warehouse needs loveWarehouse needs love

  • Next comes the equipment. We have planned for a 7-barrel, steam-fired brewhouse and plenty of fermenters and brite tanks to provide plenty of choices of the freshest beer.

  • Oh, and don’t forget about the taproom! There will always be plenty of room for you at our taproom bar. And because we support drinking local, you will also be able to get brew choices from other Louisiana craft breweries.

  • We will also have a stage dedicated to hosting local musicians, because we know you like to dance!
  •   We are fixing up this abandoned warehouse that currently blights the otherwise awesome historic neighborhood of LaPlace, also known as Fightin’ville.

Still it seems like I forgot something else we needed…

Sawbriar Beer

What kind of beer do we make? We make better beer because you deserve better.

The advantages of having a taproom where everything made is small batch and nothing distributed are flexibility, spontaneity and craft. We make a large variety of lagers, ales, stouts, porters, and sours. Some are classically inspired and others way out in left hop field. All of our beer uses the freshest local ingredients we can find. There will also be a constant rotation of seasonal surprises. (What can we say, we like to experiment!)
