Jolly Pumpkin Releasing Baudelaire Bière Series’ Ale Absurd & Improvisations Series La Vida Improvisaciòn

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales is excited to announce the return of the Baudelaire Bière Series’, Ale Absurd. First packaged in the winter of 2009, the Chardonnay Barrel Aged Rye Tripel will be available beginning the week of April 17th, 2017.

The Baudelaire Bière Series is based on the poetic works of Charles Baudelaire. Well known for his symbolic prose, Baudelaire wrote frequently of the fleeting nature of time as well as the absurd notions society kept up for the sake of tradition. Both ideals that are fundamental to Jolly Pumpkin with Ale Absurd being a direct reference to the later.

Brewed with a sizeable portion of rye malt, Ale Absurd is much more dry than the traditional Tripel. We aged the 8.3% ale in fresh California Chardonnay barrels for 17 months. The result was a medium bodied ale with mild spiciness, oak notes blended with hints of pear, and a light buttery tinge rounded with moderate acidity.

Ale Absurd will be available beginning the week of April 17th, first at Jolly Pumpkin café locations and throughout the state of Michigan. A limited amount will then be available where ever fine Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales are sold nationwide through the Shelton Brother network.image

Behold, the second release of the mercurial La Vida Improvisaciòn. Part of our Improvisations Series, the 2017 batch of La Vida Improvisaciòn is true to its name. During a slower week of production, we took stock of what materials we had and mashed together another incantation of La Vida Improvisaciòn with an entirely different hop profile.

La Vida Improvisaciòn, a 5.9% ABV oak aged saison was brewed on September 23rd, 2016 with a large portion of pilsner malt accentuated with Vienna and Crystal malts. Centennial hops were used for bittering with aroma additions of Cascade hops from both the Pacific Northwest and Michigan. After completing its primary fermentation in our open top fermentation vessels, La Vida Improvisaciòn was transferred to an oak foeder where it aged for 6 months. Coming out of oak, we dry hopped La Vida Improvisaciòn with Amarillo, Citra and Chinook hops before packaging on March 24th, 2017.

We hope you enjoy our dry hopped, oak aged sour saison, rich and resplendent with hoppy tropical fruit notes, full of liliko'i, papaya, mango and apricot. La Vida Improvisaciòn will be available both on draft and in bottles at all Jolly Pumpkin locations and throughout the state of Michigan beginning April 19, 2017. Releases throughout the Jolly Pumpkin network will follow.
