Upland - Peach Sour Ale Returns

Upland and the Giant Peach Sour

Peach was one of the first fruit selected to add to our base beer when we begin this new adventure in 2006. Starlight, Indiana is home to Huber's Orchard and Winery, where we get our peaches, and we de-stone the peach pits by hand (yep, every damn one of them) before adding to the barrels in early fall. Look for this sour beer soon!

Upland Brewing Company announces the upcoming release of two sour ales in February—Peach and Iridescent. These beers represent what the Wood Shop, Upland’s Sour Ale Brewery, is skillfully producing—whole fruited sours that remain fan favorites and new, unique flavor combinations from several small-batch experiments. Peach can be found in 750 ml bottles and Iridescent in 500 ml bottles in select bottle shops and both will be on tap in select bars and restaurants.

“We look forward to the peach harvest every year in order to make this beer. Our box truck— typically used to deliver beer, made several trips to pick up peaches from our friends at Huber Orchard & Winery in Starlight, Indiana. This year, we hand processed 7,000 pounds of peaches spanning three weeks, equating to 2.5 pounds of fruit per gallon of beer (or a half pound per 750mL bottle),” said VP of Brewery Operations Pete Batule.

Another drupaceous stone fruit is used for Iridescent, developed through passionate experimentation by the brewers. This beer is a true collaboration between customers, staff members, and the brewing team.

“This beer is a great example of where our sour program is headed. The unique combination of apricot and ginger in this beer is sure to catch the attention of both new and experienced sour beer drinkers,” said Sours Brand Manager Dusty Howe.

These sour ales will remind you that spring is just around the corner with their refreshing, tart taste and lustrous look. Peach and Iridescent are just the first two releases in a long line of innovative brews for 2017.
