Glendale, WI – For the past two years Sprecher Brewing Company’s bourbon barrel-aged Czar
Brew and Commando have been doing just that, aging in Kentucky white oak bourbon barrels.
These deliciously smooth and complex brews have melded and mellowed to a degree never
achieved before, at least not one available for public consumption.
Bourbon and oak highlights perfectly balance the dark roasted malts in Czar Brew, a sumptuous
Russian Imperial Stout. Bourbon barrel-aging naturally complements the malts and hops at the
heart of Commando, a decadent peated Strong Scotch-style ale with its dried fruit, caramel and
smoky notes. Collectors and fans familiar with Czar Brew and Commando over the years will
note the intensity of the bourbon and wood flavors compared to previous years.
At 12% abv (alcohol by volume), Czar Brew and Commando are designed for savoring in a
snifter as one would a cognac. Sprecher’s brewmaster also suggests aging them for a year or few
in a cool, dark and still environment to enjoy the subtle changes destined to occur over time.
Because of the variations that naturally occur between each year’s batches, he also encourages
beer geeks and fans to conduct vertical tasting parties with bottles aged over the years, tastings
that compare several years to one another for changes in profile, characteristics.
January 21st Release Party: On Saturday, January 21st , Sprecher hosts a special release party in
the indoor beer garden and tap room (701 W. Glendale Ave.) from 11am until 3pm. Drop in with
your friends and be among the first to taste the most recent batches of Czar Brew and
Commando. Arrive early because the first twenty four people get a collector’s edition bottle of
aged Czar Brew or Commando.

Stay for a while, enjoy some special dishes created just for the party by the Wicked Urban Grill
Food Truck, then take some of this very limited edition beer home with you in 12 ounce bottles
or growlers. Attendance is free but you must be of legal drinking age to get the party favors.
Everyone who comes for the party will leave with a special bottle of Imperial Stout.
