Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights Summit Unchained Series No 23 - Dark Infusión

imageWe brought you a peek at this beer back in March, and It’s been a long 7-month wait to get my hands on some and get a taste…but wait no more because it’s here.

This beer is part of Summit Brewing’s Unchained Series, and if you’re unfamiliar, this series launched in 2009 to allow each of their eight brewers to explore styles and techniques that fall outside of the brewery’s core lineup.  Take budgetary constraints, sales force-influence and rare ingredient limitations out of the equation, add in some creative brewers and the Unchained Series is what you get.

This is release No 23 in the series and this time it is brewer Pete Stacy’s turn to get Unchained.  Pete created a beer named

Dark Infusión and it is a coffee milk stout that uses cold-brewed coffee from Saint Paul’s

Blackeye Roasting CoThe beer is a milk stout and the coffee is a blend of Colombian and Brazilian beans.

Dark Infusión pours a rich and deep black color with loads of coffee and chocolate aromas.  The beer has some wonderful roasty malt and coffee flavors that are accentuated by the soft mouthfeel (imparted by the flaked oats).  The lactose sweetness is balanced well by the Pilgrim and Fuggle hops and the beer finishes slightly dry and loaded with complex coffee & hop notes.  I thought I tasted some subtle chocolate flavors, and I think this beer would pair really well with a chocolate desert or sweet syrupy pancakes.

If that’s not enough to convince you to try it, Dark Infusión is packaged in 4-packs of 16oz cans (yes 16oz!).  The beer will sneak up on you at 8.5%-AbV and I was truly surprised at how well it carries the hoppy 40 IBU.

Dark Infusión will be released on Oct 22nd at the Summit Beer Hall to be followed by a wider release in cans and kegs in the last week of Oct.  This is a great example of how good an unrestrained beer can be, so b

e sure to try

Dark Infusión

for yourself …

and when you do, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
