Pink Boots Society Announces Insider's Bavarian Beer Tour

Portland, OR – The Pink Boots Society in partnership with Treasures of Europe Tours

announces its second annual cultural immersion tour: Beer, Bratwurst and Beyond. If you enjoy

a pint of beer direct from the source along with slow food, cultural and historical insights, this is

the tour for you.

This insider’s tour begins in Frankfurt, and winds through idyllic Bavaria and Franconia with

stops along the way at small family-owned breweries, established breweries, some “radical”

breweries, hops farms, and many other places of interest to beer lovers, especially those with an

interest in southern German beer culture beyond Oktoberfest.

This is an exceptional year for the tour because it marks the 500 th year of Reinheitsgebot, the

Bavarian Beer Purity Law of 1516. At its core, the law states that German “beer” may be made

using only four ingredients: barley (or wheat), hops, yeast and water. German breweries using

adjuncts cannot put the word beer on their packaging. The influence of American craft beers has

caused younger Germans – brewers and beer lovers -- not to dismiss but to question the

limitations of Reinheitsgebot.

The tour will visit multiple sites including, brewpubs, family-owned breweries, historic abbeys,

hops fields, larger breweries, and even a traditional Kirchweih folk festival. Participants in the

tour will have the opportunity to engage with a variety of professionals and perspectives over a

stein of beer or two at their establishments. Among them: the Director of the Association of

Independent Breweries, representatives from the Weihenstephan school, hops growers,

pioneering women brewers such as Sister Doris, brewmasters at the abbey breweries, and new-

school craft brewers.

This tour is not all beer, however. Those who appreciate farm-to- table foods with their beer will

not go hungry. There will be sumptuous meals and even a sausage making session with a master

butcher. And yes, there will be time to shop for souvenirs, perhaps even a dirndl or lederhosen.

Due to the intimate nature of the tour space availability is limited. Make your reservations soon.
