Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights Summit 30th Anniversary West London-Style Ale

imageIf you’ve been following along, the mybeerbuzz team has been celebrating along with Summit Brewing as they commemorate their 30th Anniversary.  By “celebrating” we mostly mean that we'’ve been enjoying their 30th Anniversary beer series, but we’ve also spoken with brewmaster Damien McConn on the radio to highlight the 30th Anniversary beer-plans and we’ve even featured their 30th Anniversary Keller Pils on the radio as well.

Summit Brewing is celebrating their 30th Anniversary in way that we absolutely approve of, with some cool specialty beers.  In case you missed it, we highlighted their Unchained Zingiber Cream Ale, we sampled their 30th Anniversary DIPA, we highlighted their 30th Anniversary Keller Pils and of course we can’t wait to try their 30th Anniversary English Barleywine (coming soon)….but today we get another treat.  Today we are sampling Summit Brewing 30th Anniversary West London-Style Ale.

This beer is the third of four 30th Anniversary beers and it uses Maris Otter malt as well as modern and traditional hop varieties (UK Endeavour, US Cascade & New Zealand Moteuka).  This beer hits a very sessionable 4.6%-AbV, but don’t be fooled into thinking that’s all it is.

West London-Style Ale pours a light amber color with loads of biscuit and citrus aromas.  I kept finding lime in the nose but there was definitely something more going on fruit-wise that I couldn’t pinpoint.  The taste was initially dominated by some sweet graham-cracker flavors but it was nicely balanced out with some grapefruit and lime hop flavors at the end.  After a sip or two (OK maybe three), we found West London-Style Ale to be a really drinkable and pleasant beer.  There’s lots of complexity in this beer but you can’t help just wanting to enjoy the well-balanced mix of malt & hops.  This beer reminds me a lot of some of the classic British bitters we enjoyed in Wales and it’s a beer you definitely have to try.
imageSummit 30th Anniversary West-London Style Ale is packaged in 12oz cans, so with it’s low AbV, I think this is yet another great beach or deck beer for the summer.  Look for this beer to be released this week in 12-pack cans and on draft so get out there and taste it for yourself….and as always…when you do….be sure to let us know what YOU think.
