Major League Ultimate announced today a partnership with Weyerbacher Brewing out of Easton, PA, naming them as the Official Beer Sponsor of the 2016 MLU Championship, coming up on July 16.
Founded in 1995 in a livery stable in downtown Easton, Weyerbacher has grown from a local homebrewer’s dream to a craft brewery offering “huge taste" refreshment to beer drinkers in 18 states across the country, continuing to “push the envelope of taste experiences, obliterating style guidelines and having a blast while [they’re] at it!” according to Christina Dowd, the company’s Media & Events Manager.
The choice of Weyerbacher as the Official Beer Sponsor for the MLU Championship falls in line with the league's history of supporting local companies through partnerships. The game will be held in one of Philadelphia's most prestigious arenas - Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania. Adding to the local feel of this year’s game, for the first time in league history, the Championship will feature the local team - the Philadelphia Spinners.
“With the Championship Game having strong local ties with its location & surrounding events, Weyerbacher presented a natural fit as a partner.” said Billy Sickles, Partnership Development Associate for MLU, "We know Ultimate players and fans are a very loyal community, and they prefer local craft brews over generic brands."
Weyerbacher products will be featured at several events surrounding the Championship on July 16, as well as at the game. The Championship Pregame event at University City’s City Tap House will feature a tap takeover by Weyerbacher, with several of their beers on tap for fans to enjoy to kick off the festivities. At the game, Weyerbacher products will be for sale at the stadium’s concession stands, as well as available in the VIP Lounge and at the Championship Afterparty at City Tap House.
