This update from the Chicago Tribune:

Goose Island brewmaster Jared Jankowski said Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout and Barleywine were tainted by lactobacillus acetotolerance, a type of bacteria that the brewery identified with the assistance of a third party laboratory. Goose Island had seen no evidence of the infection before the beers went into distribution, Jankowski said.

Lactobacillus acetotolerance was first classified in the 1980s, and only identified as a threat to beer in recent months, Jankowski said on a podcast recorded with Good Beer Hunting, a beer marketing firm with which the brewery has a financial relationship.
