Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights The Samuel Adams Adventures In Lager Variety Pack

image
We brought you some of these beers (here, here & here) and a peek at this unique variety pack, so I was really excited to get a chance to sample my way through the beers.  This is the Samuel Adams Adventures in Lager Variety Pack, and as you’ll see, it really highlights the flavor profiles and varieties across the “Lager Spectrum.”

This variety pack includes returning favorites, some limited edition brews and the new Samuel Adams Ella Blanc IPL

As you can see from my photo, the Adventures In Lager variety pack includes Samuel Adams Boston Lager, Ella Blanc IPL, Noble Pils, Double Bock, Double Black and Double Pilsner…so without further adieu, here’s your taste-bud tour.

We started with Boston Lager (4.9%-AbV, 30 IBU) because we wanted to start with a familiar baseline lager.  This beer remains full-bodied with a well balanced malty character.  The hops are slightly floral with a lingering citrus finish and the finish is clean.

Next up we simply couldn’t resist the new Ella Blanc IPL (6%-AbV, 65 IBU).  This beer smells, feels and even tastes like a traditional IPA, but with a crisper and cleaner finish.  Australian Ella hops add some fruity but slightly resinous notes and the German Hallertau Blanc hops add floral and subtle spice flavors.  This is a really nice IPL.

From there we sampled the familiar Noble Pils (4.9%-AbV, 34 IBU) and found it to be floral and citrusy with a slightly sweet finish.  Noble Pils uses all 5 Noble hop varieties so the flavor and complexity of the hops really makes this beer shine.

Next up we hit Double Pilsner (8.6%-AbV, 80+ IBU) and in the sequence we chose, this new beer was much hoppier than I thought it would be.  Loads of resinous and tropical fruit flavors thanks to the Hallertau Mittelfrueh Noble hops (yes this is a single-hop beer) and a really complex and distinct finish….and shhhh…this beer hits 8.6%-AbV!

We chose Double Bock ( 9.5%-AbV, 25 IBU) next and it was full of malty, boozy and intense caramel sweetness.  You can’t miss the 9.5%-AbV in this award-winning and historic beer (Samuel Adams first seasonal release in 1988) and we found the balance and warming flavors every bit as good as we remembered.

Finally we sampled Double Black (9.5%-AbV, 25 IBU) and this black lager had rich dark fruit flavors with a roasty caramel-sweet finish.  This double schwarzber finishes with a chocolately sweetness and a surprising clean finish.

As you can see, the Samuel Adams Adventures in Lager Variety Pack is a real adventure for your palate.  From hoppy to sweet, you’ll find a wide spectrum of flavors and wide variety of aromas in this pack.  Add in mouthfeel and color and you’ll find something for everyone.

Be sure to find the Samuel Adams Adventures in Lager Variety Pack pack and taste the beers side by side like we did…and as always, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
