Troegs Releases Scratch # 219 ESB As Tribute To Jeff “Biff” Beinhaur

imageFrom Troegs:

We brewed Scratch #219 as a tribute to our long-time friend, Jeff “Biff” Beinhaur, who recently succumbed to a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Jeff was a brewery tour guide and has been a friend of the brewery from the beginning. He even served as one of the earliest volunteers on our packaging line. Scratch #219 harkens back to our original E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter), one of Jeff’s all-time favorites. Using notes from his homebrew recipes, we made a few tweaks to our E.S.B. to create an “Extra Special Biff” in honor of Jeff. Stop in and raise a glass to Biff. 6.4% ABV and 40 IBU. Availability: draft & growler fills only.

Surly / Mikkeller - Brett Mikkel’s IPA Bottles Coming Mid-Jan

image
We brought you a peek at this beer, and now the release dteails from Surly & Mikkeller:

Brett Mikkel’s IPA is our collaboration with the traveling Danish brewer Mikkel Bjergsø. Mikkel is co-founder of the Danish brewery, Mikkeller, and shares our interest in experimentation and creativity. Todd and Mikkel got together and came up with Brett Mikkel’s, which takes the concept of an IPA, blends in new German aroma hop varieties, and ferments them with Brettanomyces, rather than a traditional ale strain.

The beer debuted on draft in limited quantities in our Beer Hall in July 2015. Now, we’re excited to tell you that we’re putting it in 750ml bottles that will start to hit shelves in Chicago, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin in mid-January. You’ll have to keep your eyes peeled – they’ll be gone fast.

Head out to the store for this light-bodied and dry IPA – the combination of Brett and hop varieties offers complex earthy notes with tropical and candied fruit aromas while the honey malt provides an intense malt sweetness. It’s been hugely popular at the Beer Hall and we know you’re going to love it.

Hangar 24 Charities tops $100K for San Bernardino Victims

imageFrom Hangar 24:

REDLANDS, California – Multiple fundraising efforts by Hangar 24 Craft Brewery, led by an emotional all-day event on Dec. 26, have collected, to date, $117,036.65 for victims of the tragic Dec. 2 mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino.

The centerpiece of the fundraising plan, headed by Hangar 24 Charities, was the event across the street from the Redlands Municipal Airport that was attended by some survivors of the incident, family members of victims, as well as first responders from both police and fire departments and civic leaders.

The event included 14 different beers, nine musical acts and a food truck, and drew an estimated crowd of 3,500 despite cold temperatures throughout the day and into the evening. That event raised $64,436.65 alone, far exceeding the original goal of $30,000.

“The opportunity to meet and see family members intermingle with each other was an emotional experience,” Hangar 24 owner and founder Ben Cook said. “And seeing the community rally for the cause, in such strong numbers, was uplifting. The response to an event like this, on such short notice and in poor weather, was nothing short of amazing. A huge debt of gratitude goes to all those who helped put on the event, those that attended and to all distributors who donated.”

In addition to the more than $64,000 raised by the event, another $1,700 was collected from Hangar 24 online merchandise sales on Dec. 26. The brewery is donating all money collected on the day, minus sales tax, meaning that all cost and profit will go to the effort.

In-kind donors that made the event a success include: Johnson Caterpillar, Creative Media & Design, Cibur Sounds Production Company, Atlas Buying Group Inc., Party Plus Redlands, Fun Artists, P&R Paper Supply Co., Hunter Media, Clean Relief Portable, JoJo’s Grill-A-Dog, Johnson Power, Clean Relief, CSC Security, KCAL Radio, KOLA Radio and K-FROG Radio.

“In the aftermath of the attack in San Bernardino, I've continuously been in admiration of the resiliency and compassion of our community,” Congressman Pete Aguilar said. “The way families came together at Hangar 24 was no different, and what I'm sure we can expect to see as we stand together and move forward in the weeks and months ahead.”

There was no denying the sense of community at the Dec. 26 event.

“I've always known our community was strong, but I've never been more proud to be from San Bernardino than I was watching our residents display such unwavering support for one another in a time of grave tragedy,” Assemblyman Marc Steinorth said. “I thank everyone who made this event possible and to our brave first responders, I thank you and your families for your continued sacrifice.”

A separate fundraising effort was conducted among the brewery’s network of 25 distributors, seven of which have contributed $5,000 to date. The group of $5,000 contributors includes: Ace Beverage Co. of Los Angeles, Advance Beverage Co. of Bakersfield, Gate City Beverage of San Bernardino, Delta Sierra Beverage of Modesto, Markstein Beverage Co. of Sacramento, R&S Beverage Co. of Adelanto and Triangle Distributing Co. of Santa Fe Springs. Others contributing include: Alford Distributing Co. of Imperial, Craft Beer Guild Distributing of San Diego, Foothill Distributing Co. of Redding and Golden Eagle Distributors of Tucson, Arizona.

A third effort, which is raising funds through other breweries, also is ongoing. Hamilton Family Brewery of Rancho Cucamonga already has contributed $2,000 through that effort. Others that have committed to raising funds include: I & I Brewing of Chino, Escape Craft Brewery of Redlands, Wild Donkey of Redlands, Skyland Ale Works of Corona, Brew Rebellion of San Bernardino, Packinghouse Brewing Company of Riverside, No Clue Craft Brewery of Rancho Cucamonga, Sons of Liberty Aleworks of Norco, Dale Bros. Brewery of Pomona, Inland Empire Brewery Tours of Riverside and Council Brewing Company of San Diego.

Private donations of $5,000 each were made by CHC Consulting and American Landscape and Maintenance.
Contributions to the San Bernardino victims’ fund, set up through the United Way website, can still be made at:
https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/SBUnited/Hangar24Charities.

More information on the fundraising effort, including links for T-shirt sales, information for breweries to get involved, and money raised to date can be found at

Ranger Creek Expands San Antonio Distribution With Glazer

imageFrom Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling:

Ranger Creek Brewing will partner with Glazer to help expand their distribution in the San Antonio area.

“We started selling beer in 2010 as the first microbrewery of this modern era, and we’ve spent 5 years growing with San Antonio,” explains Mark McDavid, co-founder and head of Sales & Marketing. “We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, and now its time to work with the right partner to take it the next level,” he continues. “Giving up self distribution is a huge, nerve-wracking decision. It’s like asking someone to help raise your child.” After nearly a year long search, Ranger Creek chose Glazer’s.   “Glazer’s had the right portfolio, the right people, and an impressive passion for carrying our beer,” concludes McDavid.

“We are excited to be partnering with Ranger Creek to grow their brands in the San Antonio area,” says Mike Gorman, VP of Malt Beverage, South Texas. Glazer’s will take over distribution responsibilities for all of Ranger Creek’s beer brands in the San Antonio area starting January 4, 2016. Minor changes in pricing are possible, but both Ranger Creek and Glazer’s have worked hard to minimize them. Consumers should not notice any changes with availability of Ranger Creek products in existing accounts. In fact, the partnership will allow Ranger Creek to expand availability to more accounts across San Antonio.

“Partnering with Glazer’s will allow us to focus on brewing beer while letting a whole army of distribution experts focus on selling our beer,” says TJ Miller, co-founder and head of Operations. The brewery has new equipment on order to significantly expand capacity in anticipation of healthy growth in 2016.

The relationship with Glazer’s covers San Antonio and the surrounding areas. The brewery will continue to self-distribute their beer in Austin and Houston and continue working with their current distribution partners in Dallas/Ft. Worth and College Station. The whiskey side of their business will be unaffected by the deal and will continue to be distributed by Favorite Brands in all Texas markets.

Indeed Brewing Looks Back On 2015 Highlights

imageFrom Indeed:

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, DECEMBER 29, 2015: As the 2015 calendar comes to a close, Indeed Brewing Company, established in 2012, reflects on its achievements and aspirations for the upcoming year. The company prepares for 2016 with the arrival and installation of a new 30-foot tall, 210-barrel fermenter, which will be craned in through the roof of the building this Wednesday, December 30th, in what is sure to be a photo- and video-worthy event.*

Expanding the brewery

Indeed sold just over 11,000 barrels in 2015 (or the equivalent of more than 152,000 cases of beer), an increase of 42% over last year. More than 80% of that beer was sold in the Twin Cities. Growth was slightly slower than expected as the company saw increasingly fierce competition in bars and restaurants, and more consumer choice as the number of tap handles at bars continues to increase. Indeed also began aging more than 18,000 gallons of beer in its barrel-aging program, including Rum King and Wooden Soul.

Growing the team

With growth comes the opportunity to invest in talented individuals from packaging to sales to administration to taproom front of house. Indeed Brewing Company added six new employees in 2015, bringing the company total to 48.

Investing in the community

As the first brewery to open a taproom in Northeast Minneapolis, Indeed Brewing Company is proud to be a part of a booming craft beer community which now includes eight taprooms in Northeast's unofficial "Brewer's District." As part of its commitment to its community, the company launched Indeed We Can in 2014, a charitable giving program that puts the power of doing good directly into the hands of its employees. Through Indeed We Can, Indeed Brewing Company donated more than $100,000 to employee-chosen Minnesota non-profits in 2015.

Becoming leaders in the field

In recognition of his dedication to the organization and his position as an emerging leader in the craft brewing industry, Indeed Brewing Company Director of Operations Tom Whisenand was named president of the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild for 2016 and looks forward to taking up his post in the new year.

*The new 210-barrel tank will be craned in on 12/30, weather permitting. Please contact Tom Whisenand for more information and to schedule any media coverage.

Blackberry Farm Brewery Releases Winter Saison

Inspired by crisp December nights on our estate in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, this dark farmhouse ale is reminiscent of the natural nuances of winter. Light and dark wheat add palate fullness to this Saison’s floor malted barley backbone. Unique yet rooted in tradition, our Winter Saison is ideally accompanied by foods with notes of cinnamon, citrus and nutmeg.

Adelbert’s Brewery Brings Home Two Gold Medals From 2015 Artisan Awards

imageFrom Adelberts:

AUSTIN, Texas (December 30, 2015) –  Adelbert’s Brewery in Austin, Texas is excited to announce it has received two Gold Medals from the 2015 Artisan Awards for Flyin’ Monks and Dancin’ Monks. With the addition of these two medals, Adelbert’s Brewery now holds 27 medals to date.

The Artisan Awards is a competition that showcases traditional made products from producers around the world. The Artisan Awards beer category is growing in both sales and popularity year after year. They aim to highlight where the products were sourced, much like a farmers market, by showcasing traditional, organic, handmade, local, small batch, and seasonal beer brands.

Flyin’ Monks, a quadrupel, is conditioned on oak cubes used by Spirit of Texas Distillery to age their Pecan Street Rum. This ale has complex sweet oak and rum flavors with a warm alcoholic finish. It also holds a Gold Medal from the International Craft Competition Awards and Regional Championship from the United States Beer Tasting Championship (USBTC).

Dancin’ Monks, a dubbel, is a clean, malty ale with fruity, plum aromas and robust flavors. The carbonation balances the moderate sweetness from the malt, resulting in a dry and smooth finish. It also has a Gold Medal from the Craft Beer Awards.

Prior to the Artisan Awards, Adelbert’s Brewery brought home another seven awards in 2015 including:

  • Great American Beer Festival (GABF) Gold Medal in Belgian and French Style Ale for Vintage Monks
  • International Craft Competition Awards Gold Medal for Flyin’ Monks
  • Belgian White-Wit National Grand Champion from the United States Beer Tasting Championship (USBTC) for Naked Nun
  • Silver Medal at the Best Of Craft Beer Awards for Naked Nun
  • Bronze Medal from Best Little Brewfest in Texas for Tripel B
