Starr Hill Celebrates 16th Anniversary with Hopfetti Triple IPA 9/5

imageFrom Starr Hill:

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - (August 31, 2015) Starr Hill Brewery is celebrating its sixteenth

anniversary this September with the release of several rare beers, including the brand new

Hopfetti Triple IPA, as well as a number of special events at the Tap Room in Crozet, Virginia.

As the second oldest craft brewery in Virginia, Starr Hill’s sixteen years in operation has seen the

brewery make incredible strides that helped lay the groundwork for the growing craft beer

industry and community throughout Virginia.

“We are incredibly proud of how the brewery has continued to grow and adapt since 1999,” said

Brian McNelis, Starr Hill’s President and CEO. “This entire month of celebration is dedicated to

our team and fans of craft beer in the community who helped us get where we are today.”

Hopfetti Triple IPA is a special recipe from Brewmaster Robbie O’Cain to mark the occasion of

the brewery’s sixteenth birthday. A proclamation of Starr Hill’s love for IPAs, this bold brew is

double dry-hopped and features six different varieties, including Amarillo, Apollo, Centennial,

Equinox, Sorachi Ace and Triskel. IPAs are best enjoyed fresh, hence why Hopfetti comes with a

recommendation to “Enjoy by October 31, 2015.”

Hopfetti will be released on draft in the Starr Hill Brewery Tap Room on Saturday, September 5th

alongside birthday cupcakes from Charlottesville’s Sweethaus. This small batch of Hopfetti will

be released in a limited number of bottles later in the month, with a few saved for Starr Hill’s

Oktoberfest event on October 10th.

The following week, fall seasonal Boxcarr Pumpkin Porter and Debut #5 Maple Brown Ale will

become available on tap. Crozet neighbors, Chiles Peach Orchard, will be on hand with apples,

cider and donuts to ring in the autumn harvest season.

On Saturday, September 19th, Starr Hill will release 22oz. bottles of Live Sessions Shakedown

Imperial Chocolate Cherry Stout aged in Smooth Ambler bourbon barrels. Some of those whiskey

barrels will be raffled off during the event to a few lucky winners.

The month of celebrations will wrap up with the release of several King of Hop flavor variations,

including Grapefruit and Habanero versions of the award-winning Imperial IPA. Exclusive

tastings will be available on September 26th in the Starr Hill Brewery Tap Room and at Top of the

Hops Charlottesville Beer Fest. Visit StarrHill.com/16th-Anniversary for event details and more.

Surly’s Todd Haug Celebrates 10 Years

image
From Surly:

This week marks Todd Haug’s 10th anniversary at Surly Brewing Company. That’s right, it’s been a decade of our head brewer shredding hops and malt while helping to put Surly on the beer map.

Todd’s been with Surly since the beginning and he literally helped build Surly from the ground-up, from the beer, to two breweries, to what we stand for and how we carry ourselves. He believed in an idea and helped bring a vision to do things the Surly way, which is not the easy way, to life.

It’s been the path less traveled and we’ve never looked back. It’s been a hell of a ride and Todd’s been in the front seat, keeping the music loud and the speed fast. He’s our mad scientist in the brewery, our fix-it dude, and our favorite thrash guitarist. He’s the axeman, the catman. He’s the wizard, the bitter brewer.

Cheers to you, Todd. Thanks for making the world Surly-er. And for being the maker of the satisfying suds for Surly Nation. Todd at 10. Let’s raise a pint to Mr. Haug.

Portland Brewing - Noble Scot Scottish Ale Returns 9/19

imageFrom Portland Brewing:

PORTLAND, Ore. (August 31, 2015) As we transition to autumn from summer, dust off your stockings and suit up in that old plaid kilt; it’s time for Portland Brewing’s Scottish Festival! The family-friendly affair features traditional dance and bagpipe performances, highland games and activities, live music from the band, New Shilling, and of course, Portland Brewing’s Noble Scot Ale. The outdoor celebration is free to attend and all ages are welcome.

The liquid star of the Scottish Festival is Noble Scot. The complex and full-bodied Scottish Ale boasts notes of toast and caramel and a sweet, subtle smokiness for the bonnie days of fall. In addition to malts — 2-Row Pale, Smoked, Carapils, Roasted Barley and Melanoidin, — the seasonal brew is created with Northern Brewer, East Kent Goldings and Willamette hops. “We are excited to see fall return so we can bring this beer back once again,” said head brewer, Ryan Pappe. “At 6.5%, it has some alcohol to help fortify the body as we transition through autumn from warm weather to cold.” ABV: 6.5% | IBU: 25

Along with festive beer and food, enjoy the show as professional Highland Games athletes put on a dynamic demonstration of Scottish customs. Among them: a sheaf toss, keg toss, as well as traditional cabers, hammers, and stones.

What:      Portland Brewing’s Scottish Festival

When:     Saturday, September 19th from 1:00 pm — 5:00 pm

Where:    Portland Brewing Taproom — 2730 NW 31st Ave, Portland, Ore. 97210

Ahead of the event, people can show off their Scottish garb by participating in an online photo contest — just make sure to use the #NobleScot on Facebook or Instagram to be entered to win a $100 gift card. The contest ends Friday, 9/18 and the winner must be present at Saturday’s event to collect their prize.

AleSmith Adds Chicago Distribution With Wirtz Beverage

imageFrom Wirtz & AleSmith:

Wirtz Beverage Illinois is excited to announce a new craft beer partnership that will bolster its growing craft beer portfolio: AleSmith Brewing Co. Effective August 31, Wirtz Beverage will be AleSmith's distributor in 52 Illinois counties, including Chicagoland metro.

"AleSmith has been producing some of the most awarded and respected beers in the U.S. for more than 20 years," said Amy Abraham, Wirtz Beverage Illinois Craft Beer Sales Director. "It is an honor to partner with a brewery of this caliber and we're eager to bring Peter and Vicky Zien's craft beers into Illinois."

"This is an important strategic partnership for AleSmith and we look forward to working closely with Wirtz Beverage in growing distribution and volume in the Chicago area," said AleSmith Sales Director James Valles. "Adding Wirtz Beverage to our distributor network completes the build out of our footprint within the state of Illinois."

Founded in 1995, AleSmith Brewing Company is a San Diego based artisanal craft brewery that specializes in handcrafted ales inspired by the European classics.  This year, AleSmith is celebrating its 20th year in production and because of the brewery's tremendous growth, it is opening a brand new, state-of-the-art brewery in San Diego's Miramar neighborhood. This new brewery will feature a brew system with the capability to produce out more than 100,000 barrels/year.

It's impressive to see a brewery like AleSmith continue to grow and flourish," said Abraham. "Celebrating 20 years is no easy task in a craft beer market that is as competitive as ever. It is a privilege to be chosen as their Illinois distributor, and we're going to take pride in watching AleSmith grow even bigger over next 20+ years."

While AleSmith might be new to some, the brand and its beers have been craft beer industry stars for over a decade. In 2008, AleSmith won Small Brewing Company of the Year at the Great American Beer Festival. In 2014, RateBeer.com users rated AleSmith the No. 1 Best Brewery in the World, in addition to being No. 1 in California as well. In total the brewery has won 18 medals at GABF.

At launch, accounts will be able to order a number of AleSmith's core beers, seasonals and special releases, including: X, ESB, IPA, Nut Brown, Horny Devil, Speedway Stout and Old Numbskull.

New Belgium - "Zag On" Coworker Profile: Grant S. (Video)

From New Belgium:

Behind every New Belgium beer you purchase — a six pack of Snapshot from your local store, a pint of Rampant at your neighborhood hang out, or a bomber of La Folie at the beer bar — is an NBB Ranger. They spend their days checking in on beer stores and bars, educating businesses on New Belgium beers and making sure our liquid and its handlers are up to snuff.

In the nation’s capital you’ll find Grant Smith pedaling from bar to bar, chatting with owners, employees and patrons alike. But it’s not all about selling our beer. It’s about making true and lasting relationships — even if that means turning someone on to a brew that isn’t even made by New Belgium (good beer is good beer, after all).

Sharing what excites us has always been an important part of our culture, and it’s why we created the Tour de Fat 15 years ago. A celebration of bikes, beers and ballyhoo, it’s a travelling circus of live music, interactive sculpture and New Belgium cultural values. And, to cap it off, proceeds from each show benefit local cycling-related nonprofits.

Great Lakes Introduces Steady Rollin’ Session IPA

image
From Great Lakes:

Last night we invited a group of blogger friends to our Beer Symposium to preview this year's Burning River Fest. After a welcome pint, an inspired address from co-owner Pat Conway, and a brewery tour, we shared a special treat with our guests: a brand new Great Lakes beer.

Meet Steady Rollin' Session IPA, our 6th year-round beer, launching in January of 2016. A single-hopped session IPA brewed with Mosaic hops and inspired by the vibrant landscape of the Great Lakes region, Steady Rollin' is the perfect companion for cutting a new trail or rowing to a secluded bank with friends to kick back and watch the afternoon fade away. Fans of our Chillwave Double IPA will recognize the tropical fruit aromas and flavors of the Mosaic hop, which holds its own in Steady Rollin', adding tropical, fruity, and earthy aromas and flavors. Developed by GLBC Pub Brewer Steve Forman, Steady Rollin' is refreshing in its simplicity and taste. We can't wait to share it with you!

Try It First:
Don't want to wait until 2016 to try the newest member of our year-round family of beers? Then make sure you get a

We'll be pouring the first public taste of Steady Rollin' in addition to Burning River Pale Ale and Oktoberfest. Short’s - Space Rock American Pale Ale - Gluten Removed & Ermagerdness IPA

image
Here’s the latest packaging for Short’s Brewing Space Rock.  This American Pale Ale is now crafted to remove gluten as long as the bottle you’re holding was brewed after 8/1/2015.  This is the 12oz bottle.  We also have Ermagerdness American IPA 12oz bottles. image
From Short’s:

Ermagerd! Our latest specialty bottle release, a fantastically hoppy American India Pale Ale that goes by the name ERMAGERDNESS is hitting store shelves this week.

ERMAGERDNESS (5.5% ABV – 84 IBU) is a light bodied golden colored American India Pale Ale with zesty tangerine and pineapple aromatics.  A simplified malt bill, along with some signature American hops, allows for an awesome burst of tropical fruit flavors up front.  It then shifts toward an interesting herbal tasting bitterness, which builds and lingers on the back of the palate.

Originally envisioned by Al Russel (the same SBC Production Facility brewer who helped bring to life brews like OMGWTFBBQ and Honey Badger), Al sought to create a hop forward American India Pale Ale reminiscent of some of his favorite brews. While the name ERMAGERDNESS may have originally been nothing more than a place holder, it’s only fitting that this brew be celebrated with a name that calls for exclamation. Just one taste we’ll leave you screaming “ermagerdness!”*

Look for Ermagerdness at your favorite Michigan beverage purveyor. Be sure to pick up your six-pack soon, this beer will disappear lickety-split!

*Disclaimer: Screaming “ermagerdness” when purchasing a six-pack or taking the first sip of this brew may draw unwanted attention. Embrace it and enjoy.

Upland Side Trail Series # 6 Falkor White IPA Coming 9/15

image
From Upland:

This beer is all about late addition hops, allowing us to create big hop aroma and flavor, without being overly bitter. The aroma is complex; floral, spicy and tropical, with notes of grapefruit, lemon, passion fruit, and pine. Pleasant spicy bitterness is quickly followed by flavors of tropical and stone fruits. The body is smooth and drinkable with a touch of residual sweetness from honey malt. Orange peel and coriander provide delicate spice complexity to round out this IPA. American ale yeast helps create a smooth, low ester flavor profile.

ABV:  6.9%, IBU: 69  Available 9/15.
