The original news is here…and now the official word from Funkwerks:

(Fort Collins, CO) – Funkwerks, announces the launch today of Funkwerks Provincial, the newest summer seasonal Belgian-Style Ale.

Provincial is a highly carbonated, light, refreshingly tart beer with citrusy pineapple aromas. The aromas carry through to the flavor leading to a dry finish. Provincial pairs nicely with fresh fish ceviche. Alcohol by volume is 5.6%.

Provincial will be on draft in numerous bars and restaurants and in 750 ml bottles in liquor stores across Colorado and Nebraska beginning this week. The Funkwerks tasting room in Fort Collins, CO will also have Provincial on tap and in bottles.

“We vet each seasonal by doing several experimental batches to assure the final recipe is right. Provincial is no exception,” said Brad Lincoln, Funkwerks Co-Founder/Owner. “The result is a summer citrus beer that we’re very proud of.”

Inspired by the German Berliner Weisse, Funkwerks allowed the wort to mature overnight with lactobacillus. The following day it was boiled and transferred to the fermenter where a Belgian wheat yeast strain, famous for its fruity flavors and dry finish, was then added. This unfiltered ale is best consumed fresh.

“Saisons brewed in the early 20th century were the product of mixed fermentations and of a lower alcohol content than the versions we have today. Provincial is our take on how these older style Saisons may have tasted. Tart and fruity yet dry and refreshing, this just may be the perfect summer beer,” commented Gordon Schuck, Funkwerks Co-Founder/Owner and Head Brewer.

Funkwerks is located at 1900 East Lincoln Avenue in Fort Collins, Colorado. The tasting room complete with an indoor bar, tables and retail area is open 7 days a week: Sunday through Thursday from 12pm-8pm; and Friday and Saturday from 12pm-9pm. Brewery tours are Saturdays at 2pm. Funkwerks also features a spacious outdoor, dog-friendly patio and lawn area with picnic benches.
