Some interesting news coming from Orval today as brewmaster Jean-Marie Rock  departs after 3 decades to open his own brewery.  Details from Lavenir:

Jean-Marie Rock is a little Elvis the Trappist. It is in effect which, since 1985, the Orval taste it is. It now wants to open a brewery.

For almost 65 years, it expects to achieve his childhood dream: create his own brewery in Noirefontaine (Bouillon) and recreate a beer with a forgotten of all Brewers recipe. The man, who has over 40 years of experience, developing in secret a beer that the Americans and British were able to test and which they are already fans.

Jean-Marie Rock, why embark on this "adventure" while the time of retirement will ring?

I believe that as long as there are different breweries, beer will remain a flagship of Wallonia. If I break the head to start this business, it is because I want to do something for our region.

When your brewery open?

It takes six months to build. I hope that in a year and a half, it will the first beer. The project is on track for a long time. I am associated with a friend of 15 years my cadet. It sells equipment for breweries. We want to install on the N89, on the plateau of Noirefontaine, just next to the garage Arnould. This road is a beautiful showcase. At peak hours, have calculated a time stream of 6,000 vehicles. Because of red tape, we have lost a year.
