I couldn’t make this up….Yes this brew is called Pong Lite Beer….aka Beer-Pong, yes it’s produced by Pong Beer Co in 12oz cans, and brewed by Jones Brewing in our very own Latrobe, PA plant…but no worries…it only has 110 calories and they do remind you to “Pong Responsibly

Redhook Nut Brown, Odell Isolation Ale & Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon

image image image

There are simply so many interesting label approvals today, I’ve had to combine the last few into one post…

Red Hook Nut Brown:  A reintroduction of Nut Brow Seasonal Series  Ale using the new packaging designs (12oz bottle, 5.8% ABV)

Odell Brewing Isolation Ale:  6.1% ABV 12oz bottle winter Seasonal Ale.

Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon:  Unless the Blaecorn Unidragon coalition is active these days, I think we’re finally seeing a Clown Shoes label that someone may not protest.  This Russian Imperial Stout will come in at 12.5% ABV and be packaged in 22oz bottles.  And yes Blaecorn Unidragon is a combination of Black Unicorn and Soul Dragon.

Terry Hawbaker–Update @ The Farmers Cabinet

29 August 2011

image

We had a chance to visit the Farmers Cabinet last weekend and we really enjoyed the brews and atmosphere, but what we were really excited about was the upcoming premier of Terry Hawbaker’s first brews.  For those that haven’t followed along, Terry recently left Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport to brew for the Farmer’s Cabinet in Philadelphia.  After some start up difficulties, the owners of the Farmer’s Cabinet purchased the former Shenandoah Brewing Company in Alexandria, VA.  Terry has been traveling to Alexandria and brewing quite a few brews; a Saison, an IPA, Porter, American Wheat, Berlinerweisse, and a Grisette among others.  Looks like Terry will be spending quite a bit of his time in Alexandria after premiering his first brews at the Farmers Cabinet on Aug 26th.  Look for his beers not only at the Farmer’s Cabinet, but other outlets in Philadelphia and even more when the proposed tasting room opens in the Alexandria, VA brewery….so stay tuned for details.

Canvas Dezign–Beer Photo Canvas Printing

CanvasDezign 002
I recently heard from Conrad Mckee @ Canvas Dezign, a UK based company that specializes in photo canvas printing.  I e-Mailed Conrad a photo I recently took of a Guinness delivery truck from Dingle Ireland and he was nice enough CanvasDezign 001to send me a great looking canvas photo print of my picture.

As you can see it came out great!  The photograph was professionally printed on canvas, stretched on a wooden frame and even came with all the hardware necessary to hang the photo.
CanvasDezign 004
Check out the photos below and see for yourself.  The wooden frame includes blocked corners so you can easily adjust the level of stretch on the frame over the life of the print…and what is perhaps one of the coolest features of Canvas Dezign prints is the great edge and corner wrapping.  Check out the photo below and you can see how the details of the photo actually wrap around the corner of the print!
 CanvasDezign 003
Canvas Dezign has been in the Canvas Photo Printing business for over 12 years and they can be found on-line at http://www.canvasdezign.co.uk/ , by e-Mail at sales@canvasdezign.co.uk, by phone at  07837 602976 or by mail at Unit 19, Railway, Road Enterprise Centre, Darwen, Lancashire, BB3 3EH.so feel free to contact Conrad or Phillip Mckee if you have any questions.  Conrad was also nice enough to include a 10% Discount Code you can use when you check out on his website (93HEXWF35U)

Just think how great one of your beer photos would look hanging in your bar or by your tap handles on a great Canvas Dezign print.  Just think how great a family photo or vacation photo would look hanging in your house on a professionally printed canvas frame!  The process was simple and the shipping was fast and reliable.  The print arrived in less than 10-days and the print was packaged really well for shipment…so be sure to check out Canvas Dezign.

UPDATE:  From the Keg label Approval (9/1):  “This full bodied

New Belgium - Lips of Faith Fresh Hop

Here’s a surprising new package from Boston Beer Co / Samuel Adams called Tasman Red – Red IPA.  This 6.5% ABV brew will be packaged in 22oz bottles and use Topaz & Galaxy Hops from Tasmania…yesimage Tasmania!  The backing label is quick to point out that “At Samuel Adams we love experimenting.  This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations…Batch No 1”  As much as this isn’t the first Longshot…this is listed as a Long shot beer.

Deschutes–Fresh Hop Mirror Pond Pale

Brooklyn Brewing–Bam Boozle & The Companion Ale

image image

We don’t get to post too many label approvals from Garrett and everyone at Brooklyn Brewery…so it was exciting to see not one…but TWO NEW LABELS.  Up first is Bam Boozle Ale (100% bottle refermented Ale—750ml & 7.6% ABV)  This beer was brewed to commemorate (and benefit) the 150th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Academy of Music.  The Companion (100% bottle refermented ale in 750ml bottles and 7.6% ABV)  This beer was produced in conjunction with the Oxford Companion to Beer & brewed by Garrett Oliver (editor in chief.)  This brew is a wheat-wine made with 55% new wheat floor-malts from Weyerman maltings.

Penn Brewing Bleier’s Brew, Fantome Magic Ghost & Narragansett Porter

image image image

I know these have very little to do with each other…but there were simply a TON of new label approvals today…

Pennsylvania Brewing Bleier’s Brew..this 12oz lager is brewed in recognition of Pittsburg Steelers star Rocky Bleier.

Fantome Magic Ghost..this 8% ABV 750ml bottled brew looks like a Belgian ale brewed with green tea.  I’m a huge fan of Fantome Saison, so I suspect this will be good.

Narragansett Porter…no real shocker here for this 16oz canned Porter except that it’s a big 7% ABV.

WILK Friday BeerBuzz–26 Aug 2011 (Yards Cape of Good Hope IPA w/Steve Mashington)

WILKFridayBeerbuzz3Frequent flyers on the Friday BeerBuzz will not only remember the great show we did with Steve Mashington from Yards Brewing back in January of 2011.  We profiled Yards ESA, (asked Steve about his non-existent engagement)…but more importantly, Steve announced that we should watch for Yards Cape of Good Hope IPA to come out in bottles in the future.

Flash forward June 2nd, and sure enough, Yards received label approval for Cape of Good Hope bottles and COGH Ale kegs.  As promised we checked in with Steve again a month or so ago and found out Cape of Good Hope IPA would hit the streets in a somewhat limited release in Aug…so here we are.
It was fun to have Steve join us to sample the new Cape of Good Hope Imperial IPA.  Probably not as fun as the engagement joke played on us on the last show with Steve or even the visit to Yards to pick up COGH, but it was still a ton of fun having Steve back with this great new beer.

[image%255B6%255D.png]You’ll note that COGH uses the “I” in IPA as “Imperial” not “India” and for very good reason.  This is a big, certainly Imperial-level IPA.  Strong in ABV, strong in IBU and strong in flavor….but oddly enough the beer has a wonderful delicate mouthfeel that I’m pretty sure most people will really love.

Get down to Yards brewing Co in Philly and try this one for yourself.

Thanks

to  Steve Mashington from Yards Brewing, Nancy, John, Joe, and Bosco for yet another fun Friday.

New Belgium–Lips of Faith Prickly Passion Saison

image
Here’s a quick look at the latest New Belgium Brewing Lips of Faith Series Prickly Passion Saison…ale brewed with fruit juices.  This big 8.5% ABV beer will be packaged in 22oz bottles.  “Peter picked a prickly pear & paired it with a passion fruit.  Perfect! Pitch it in!  He proclaimed, now we have this pleasing prickly passion saison brewed with fruit juices & French Saison Yeast to our Brewmaster’s pickling”  As a bonus I thought you’d also want a peek at a New Belgium label I rarely ever see….Frambozen!

21st Amendment / Ninkasi Brewing Special Ale

image

I know what you’re thinking….damn that’s a BIG label…and it is.  Technically it’s supposed to be sideways (it’s a CAN!), but I turned it around rather than causing any label-reading injuries.  Today we have the 21st Amendment Ninkasi co-brewed Special Ale.  We brought you the keg label yesterday (which oddly enough listed a different ABV) and today we have the 12oz can package.  This 8.5% ABV 52IBU ale brewed with dates will be produced & canned @ 21st Amendment Brewing.  I love the picture with Jamie Floyd, our al Shaun O’Sullivan and Nicco Freccia superimposed over the real photo.  The beer uses California dates and “an aggressive arsenal of all Northwest hops” so be sure to check it out…and yes I expect we might actually see this in PA.

Cigar City–Tocobaga Red Ale & Sugar Plum & Tampa Bay Brew Bus Rollin Dirty

image
We brought you the original packaging for the 750ml bottles of Cigar City Brewing Tocobaga Red Ale…so today we’re showing off the 12oz version.  Since most of the details are the same form the 750ml version, I thought I’d add a bonus.  From Tampa Bay Brew Bus we have a beer called Rollin Dirty that is also brewed by Cigar City.  This 12oz bottled red ale looks will be used on an event & party bus tour in Tampa so be sure to “Hop on board!” ;)
image

I’ve also included a late addition from Cigar City called Sugar Plum.  This 750ml brew appears for be their Holiday Ale and even includes the Merry Christmas 2011 label…”

Cigar City Brewing’s official celebration of Christmas. A rich-bodied brown ale forms the stage for holiday flavors which dance a festive ballet highlighted by pirouetting leaps of Christmas inspired spices. Cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, rose hips & chamomile compliment the subtle chocolate & light coffee notes of the malt and the addition of roasted carob and chicory complete the performance. Brewed once a year to celebrate the Christmas season. Pair with fresh cracked nuts, fruit cake and share with friends and family.”

Rogue–Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Porter

image

Today we have a very unique brew from our friends at Rogue Brewery called Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Porter (Porter brewed with natural flavors).  As a vegetarian and lover of all-things doughnut, I’ll even admit that this beer sounds good.  Based on the label it looks like Canadian bacon? for this 750ml bottled specialty brew…and based on the ingredients we’re talking apple-smoked bacon, vanilla beans, maple syrup & chocolate malts for this 5.6% ABV brew.

UPDATE 11/29:  Looks like another label approved today replacing the word “Porter” with “Ale".”  I doubt this signals a different brew.

Cigar City / Dunedin–Auld Alliance

image
Yesterday we brought you the keg version of Cigar City Brewing Auld Alliance…and today we have the bottle label for this Biere de Scotch Ale co-brew with Dunedin Brewery.  This 9% ABV brew will be packaged in the traditional 750ml bottles.

Dunedin Brewery is Florida’s oldest Craft Brewery. Cigar City Brewing is one of the youngest. In fact CCB’s founder got his start in the craft beer business as a sales rep for Dunedin brewery.

Started in 1996, in the Scottish Heritage town of Dunedin, FL, Founder Michael Bryant & his staff at Dunedin Brewery displayed a tenacity that resulted in a staying power many breweries opened in the 90’s were unable to match. It also resulted in a lot of really good local beer! 15 years of it in fact. Ov

er the years, Dunedin has had a major impact on the Florida beer scene and served as an inspiration for those that followed it. In its role as Elder Statesman, Dunedin has both inspired and provided a model & it is in that spirit of cooperation & guidance that we present Auld Alliance.

Auld Alliance (Vielle Alliance) was the alliance of kingdoms between Scotland and France from 1295 and 1560 which profoundly shaped the legal, military, cultural & even culinary makeup of both countries. It also provides a good historical analogy for the spirit of cooperation possessed by so many who work to create hand-crafted beer.

Auld Alliance is a Scotch Ale reflecting the Scottish contribution to the Alliance fermented with a Saison yeast strain that's origin is traced back to France.”
