Samuel Adams Single-Batch Cinder Bock – Surrendered

image
It’s been reported that our friend Jim Koch an the guys at Samuel Adams would be adding a Fifth Brew to their single batch series called Cinder Bock Rauchbock, however so far it’s NOT true.  The Cinder Bock label you see was actually SURRENDERED today.  It will be interesting to see if this is a revision of the label and a new label will be approved soon, or this is in indication of dropping Cinder Bock from the single-batch line-up.  Odd (or a TTB error) that this is listed as surrendered and it was never listed as approved prior to today.  In any case looks like the plan is/was for  a 9.4% smoky double bock.

  1. Was it surrendered because someone realized how much it looked like the Cinder Bock label Heavyweight Brewing used to have, showing a goat smoking a cigarette? I'm guessing Tom Baker still has a hold on that name, and maybe they just dipped out of a possible problem...or not. Dunno. They might just be getting a new name. Hope so, the beer sounds good.

  2. Perhaps a good call Lew. While that label was a little more cartoon-ish and that goat was actually smoking a cigarette, it could be they just want to avoid that reference completely. This one is odd in that it was never actually approved and went right to "surrendered" status. My initial take was that they decided to release only Four single-batch beers and baile don this one, but I'd never rule out the TTB makeing a mistake in the status. (of course government organizations rarely make mistakes).
