Chip the Beer Guy – Karnival Kolsch

Today the guys featured Stoudts spring seasonal Karnival Kolsch on the show.  Kolsch is a traditional German-style lager with less hop character, however they are typically brewed with top-fermenting yeasts at warmer temperatures much like an ale.  Carol Stoudt’s version uses 2-row malt with some red wheat malt and all German hops (hallertau).  Carol uses colder & slower fermentation, more like an ale and the Kolsch comes out with an ABV of around 4.8% and an IBU of 22.

Today the guys also talked about head retention…and I’ll just leave it at that.  Thanks guys…
