Lion Brewery – Label Fun

Well I’m slowly running out of labels to post. Not surprising I guess when you consider that I’ve been posting one label every other day for months. But of course here we have another interesting Lion Brewery label. This one if Franklin Beer from Franklin Brewing Co and of interest is that the address is listed as Hanover Twp.

  1. That is NOT the Lion brewery but actually the franklin brewery in Franklin township. It closed in the 50's I believe, and is different from the Stegmaier and Lion breweries.

    Still worth a look though.

  3. That's where the brewery was located. I dont live up there but I guess they wanted the extra distinction of hanover township and the recognition of W-B, or maybe there is another hanover township nearby so they are identifying themselves as the one close to W-B.

  4. Wow, and I assumed pretty much any label with Wilkes-Barre from that time period was coming out of Lion/Steg.

  5. There were some ruins left a few years back. One wall along a parking lot and not much else, as I recall.

  6. If you go down the Sans Souci Pkwy and come to the big hill at St. mary's Road (at the light by Air Products) the Franklin brewery used to sit on that hill with St. Mary's Rd for access. I've heard something to the effect that the public works building that's currently located there used to be the old bottleshop, but it looks too new for that. Any old-timers here?
